Rules:

  1. The mods are fallible; if you've been banned or had a post/comment removed, please appeal.
  2. Off-topic posts will be removed. If you don't know what "Leopards ate my Face" is, try reading this post.
  3. If the reason your post meets Rule 1 isn't in the source, you must add a source in the post body (not the comments) to explain this. If the reason is in the source but is tedious to find (e.g. in a lengthy video), you must add an explanation for where it is.
  4. Posts should use high-quality sources (for a rough idea, check out this list), and posts should retain the title (if one exists) from works like news articles, videos, etc. You may (but need not) edit your post if the source changes the title. Other types of posts should have a title which accurately, relatively neutrally describes their contents.
  5. For accessibility reasons, an image of text must either have alt text or a transcription in the post body.
  6. Reposts within 1 year or the Top 100 of all time are subject to removal. Within moderator discretion, this doesn't just include reposts of the exact same media but also includes e.g. a secondary source telling basically the exact same story as another that was already posted.
  7. This is not exclusively a US politics community. You're encouraged to post stories about anyone from any place in the world at any point in history as long as you meet the other rules.

Homeowner's taxes

Really doesn't understand a damn about federalism.

[–] aceshigh@lemmy.world 3 points 47 minutes ago

So he’s expecting him to run for the 4th time?

[–] gmtom@lemmy.world 12 points 1 hour ago

That's the problem with the cult. No matter how bad it gets they can just say "imagine how much worse it would have been with Kamala" and they just go along with it because they've already drunk that koolaid.

[–] Jiggle_Physics@quokk.au 5 points 2 hours ago

One cult member's brain turns on long enough to make a criticism and along comes the cult to talk them down from that nonsense

[–] Signtist@bookwyr.me 60 points 5 hours ago

And here we see why things will never be bad enough for them to come around. They can always pretend that things would've been worse under someone else, and they can always fall back on the "things will get worse before they get better" mentality, no matter how unlikely it is that things will ever actually get better. Throw in a bit of "crabs in a bucket" behavior, where those who can't admit to their mistake make sure that others stay the course along with them, and we've got a cult that will follow the GOP until the day ice finally comes for them.

What did he mean I'm thinking not again?? He can't run again. I know he will try to change it so he can but I doubt he gets away with it.

[–] red_tomato@lemmy.world 16 points 4 hours ago (2 children)

Unfortunately, he’s going to get away with it.

[–] WhyIHateTheInternet@lemmy.world 6 points 4 hours ago (4 children)

I just don't believe that honestly. It's more likely it'll be one of his family or cronies. This country puts up with a lot of shit but I don't think he could get away with running for a third term. Even these Bible thumping constitution "loving" Republicans would surely understand why that can't happen.

Then again, you might be right.

[–] Yliaster@lemmy.world 2 points 1 hour ago

Democracy isn't actually in the constitution so it can technically be removed, or so I heard.

The only things that’re gonna stop him from running again are either he finally succumbs to all the health shit that he observably is experiencing or he cancels the elections. Until someone stops him that’s where things are going

[–] Signtist@bookwyr.me 7 points 3 hours ago

What do you think we'd actually do if he said tomorrow that he was running for another term? We'd organize a bunch of protests, the media would have a field day, it'll get voted down and... what? They clearly aren't willing to arrest him no matter what he does, so what exactly would we do to stop him if he just decided to do it anyway?

I honestly think the best we could do would be to not print his name on the ballot, which would indeed be a big blow to his chances, but the extent to which I've seen our country fail to give even the slightest of repercussions to Trump's shenanigans has killed any hope I had that we'll ever really put up a fight against anything. We're a bunch of little dogs yapping at an intruder we'll never bite, and Trump has long since realized that if he just ignores us, he's free to do whatever.

If he were younger, he'd definitely declare he could run again, or be god-emperor for life. But he's now the oldest president and clearly has frontotemporal dementia. I don't think he'll last another term.

[–] wakko@lemmy.world 1 points 3 hours ago

Yes and no. He's not likely to be alive in another month.

He just had another stroke followed by a full week of no public appearances. Recent footage of him shows significant decline. He's barely functional and hasn't been in decent enough cognitive condition to hold public office in months, if not years. Rubio just perjured himself before Congress lying about the Pedo-in-Chief's health.

He's got dementia, too. There is no cure for dementia. Every day that passes is another day of disease progression toward a terminal outcome.

Odds of him being alive to see the results of November's elections are so close to zero it might as well be zero. The real question is what happens once he's gone.

[–] jontree255@lemmy.world 3 points 3 hours ago

He’s going to run again if he’s alive and no one is going to stop him. The fact this person is even thinking about “again” is evidence it’s going to happen. People literally think he’s the messiah.

He could be in a wheelchair with shit visibly running out of his pants and 1/3 of this country will vote for him as long as he can make up a stupid nickname for his opponent. We’ve watched him shit himself and fall asleep behind the desk live and no one cares.

Whether he’ll win is a different question.

I'm sure some people voted for this asshole just because they wanted another piddly rebate check... people can be so awful. Sell your soul for a few hundred dollars go ahead.

[–] PugJesus@piefed.social 4 points 3 hours ago

"MAYBE not a fourth time. Maybe. But it depends on whether the Dems ran a RADICAL LIBERAL like HILLARY or BIDEN again."

[–] one_old_coder@piefed.social 6 points 4 hours ago

I'm thinking

No you can't.

[–] Blibly@lemmy.world 2 points 4 hours ago

Just give it more time! Just a little more capitalism guys we're almost there! Just one more lane and then traffic will be solved guys, seriously!
