You must post before you leave

Be nice. Assume others have good intent (within reason).

Block or ignore posts, comments, and users that irritate you in some way rather than engaging. Report if they are actually breaking community rules.

Use content warnings and/or mark as NSFW when appropriate. Most posts with content warnings likely need to be marked NSFW.

Most 196 posts are memes, shitposts, cute images, or even just recent things that happened, etc. There is no real theme, but try to avoid posts that are very inflammatory, offensive, very low quality, or very "off topic".

Bigotry is not allowed, this includes (but is not limited to): Homophobia, Transphobia, Racism, Sexism, Abelism, Classism, or discrimination based on things like Ethnicity, Nationality, Language, or Religion.

Avoid shilling for corporations, posting advertisements, or promoting exploitation of workers.

Proselytization, support, or defense of authoritarianism is not welcome. This includes but is not limited to: imperialism, nationalism, genocide denial, ethnic or racial supremacy, fascism, Nazism, Marxism-Leninism, Maoism, etc.

Avoid AI generated content.

Moderator Guidelines

Moderator Guidelines

  • Don’t be mean to users. Be gentle or neutral.
  • Most moderator actions which have a modlog message should include your username.
  • When in doubt about whether or not a user is problematic, send them a DM.
  • Don’t waste time debating/arguing with problematic users.
  • Assume the best, but don’t tolerate sealioning/just asking questions/concern trolling.
  • Ask another mod to take over cases you struggle with, if you get tired, or when things get personal.
  • Ask the other mods for advice when things get complicated.
  • Share everything you do in the mod matrix, both so several mods aren't unknowingly handling the same issues, but also so you can receive feedback on what you intend to do.
  • Don't rush mod actions. If a case doesn't need to be handled right away, consider taking a short break before getting to it. This is to say, cool down and make room for feedback.
  • Don’t perform too much moderation in the comments, except if you want a verdict to be public or to ask people to dial a convo down/stop. Single comment warnings are okay.
  • Send users concise DMs about verdicts about them, such as bans etc, except in cases where it is clear we don’t want them at all, such as obvious transphobes. No need to notify someone they haven’t been banned of course.
  • Explain to a user why their behavior is problematic and how it is distressing others rather than engage with whatever they are saying. Ask them to avoid this in the future and send them packing if they do not comply.
  • First warn users, then temp ban them, then finally perma ban them when they break the rules or act inappropriately. Skip steps if necessary.
  • Use neutral statements like “this statement can be considered transphobic” rather than “you are being transphobic”.
  • No large decisions or actions without community input (polls or meta posts f.ex.).
  • Large internal decisions (such as ousting a mod) might require a vote, needing more than 50% of the votes to pass. Also consider asking the community for feedback.
  • Remember you are a voluntary moderator. You don’t get paid. Take a break when you need one. Perhaps ask another moderator to step in if necessary.

Wait til you see the Parthenon in fucking Nashville, Tennessee (link). The ultra rich and powerful have bought, moved, or replicated historical structures for ever, but this one irks me. Partially because Wikipedia, America-centred as it is, says it was designed by a Confederate American architect... mf it's plagiarism

Just FYI, the NPS is required by law to respond to substantive comments. Shitposting or just ranting won't do anything but maybe register that you're mad - if you want to slow things down you would actually need to engage with the report or with federal law in your comment. Otherwise they can just toss your comment.

LOOSER ARCH

there have been no triumphs here

The only thing that could justify a triumphal arch is if the whole citizenry rose up to defeat the Fascist Toad in Chief and his Toadies. But of course that would also mean we could NOT build it and use the money for better purposes.

Literally the Hitler playbook

[–] Zier@fedia.io 6 points 17 hours ago

Is this the arch they are building to rape children? It's the Epstein Arch right?

[–] craftrabbit@lemmy.zip 4 points 16 hours ago

Have you ever been to the arc de triomphe in Paris? Horrible place to be in my opinion. Now the question is, can this one be even worse?

I don't really have the expertise to evaluate the report for things that would make for compelling objections. If someone here happens to, it would be helpful if you could give us a quick summary of the most objectionable parts of this proposal that we could use in writing a comment.

Obviously it's visually objectionable and all that, but that doesn't seem to be what they're asking for comments on.

Don't know the specifics for who does what there, but I'm assuming there will be a lot of job cuts, budget cuts, mismanagement and abandonment of currently managed locations in order to focus on this single display of overcompensation and megalomania.

Is it being built in an earthquake prone area? Flood lands? Unstable ground? Marshy? Cavernous?

Is it economically viable? What are any actual (as in not wishful thinking) prognosticated revenues from its construction?

Any dangers to local fauna/flora?

Is it ugly?

Dunno. Lots of good questions to be ignored, I'd say. But that's just me speaking out of my ass.

such a monstrosity could only turn into the world's largest public urinal.

[–] INHALE_VEGETABLES@aussie.zone 6 points 20 hours ago (1 children)

Where can we read the comments? :P

[–] Beehaw_Girl@beehaw.org 6 points 19 hours ago (1 children)

We can't read the comments. We can only submit comments.

NPS said comments may be submitted online through the agency's Planning, Environment and Public website.

Comments may also be emailed to ncr_planning at nps.gov

We can’t read the comments. We can only submit comments.

Here's a thought: how much do you bet those who submit unfavorable comments will have a higher-than-normal rate of ICE home visits soon?

[–] Beehaw_Girl@beehaw.org 1 points 10 hours ago

Good point! Thankfully I was too lazy to click in there and speak my mind. I don't feel like being kidnapped & put into a concentration camp anytime soon.
