When talking about degoogle i always hear something to the effect of "but, my bank app bruh"

FUCK YO MUTHA FUCKIN BANK APP!!!

Like seriously, you lazy fuck head. You can use your fucking bank from this thing called a web browser. Some good examples are Firefox or Chromium.

If your bank does not allow you to use a website to manage your account, then SWITCH FUCKING BANKS!

I've heard that some people live in the European hellhole where you can't do banking from a website because of needing a phone to authenticate. In which case, buy yourself a cheap little ass Android phone that sits in a drawer powered off at all times unless you fucking need it.

You sorry excuse for a human being have no integrity because you talk like you want to maintain your sovereignty and then you're like, "oh, but it's too hard", so you do nothing.

Well, I'd like to know where you love but i live in EU and do exactly what you have indicated. So not all Europeans are f*** asses.

Get mad at individuals seeking the path of least resistance in their complicated lives about an important but not urgent issue.

Issue is actually a structural issue.

Divide and oligarch wins again, good job!

Don't blame the people being exploited and tell them to carry and keep multiple devices charged when you probably wouldn't want to have to do that either.

Please point out where I said carry a second device. I said have a second device and only use it when you need to use your bank. I said nothing about carrying it.

What I specifically said was to buy a secondary device that sits in a drawer powered off unless you need to use it. And unless you're carrying your drawer around with you, you wouldn't be carrying that device.

Some are required in order to approve purchases or to access customer service on case a fraud warning prevents a transaction from going through the first time or if you just need some savings money transferred to your checking in order to make a purchase which you might use a mobile app or call customer service to do rather than having to go home and come back to the store. There are several reasons to need to access your money when you are outside of the house. The things that require the app authentication vary by bank, but some are going to be urgent enough that it's going to risk purchases getting rejected if you don't have the app with you at all times.

Funny you say. I know at least one bank that ditched their intetnet banking and the only way to do anything is using their mobile app. Not even calling them works anymore.

buy a little ass android phone

switch fucking banks

lmao, talk privilege, huh?

I have a phone with GrapheneOS on it btw. But damn you're not very bright, are you?

I mostly use cash, which I can't withdraw from an app or browser, therefore I have no need for either.

Best way for me to bank is at the branch.

Why are you even using a bank you lazy fuck head?

Just barter your goods and services in exchange for other goods and services.

Victim blaming isn't helpful.

some people live in the European hellhole

That's rich, coming from a country that can burn hundreds of billions of Dollars in Iran for abso-fucking-lutely nothing, but is somehow unwilling to give its own citizens universal health care or free access to higher education! 😄 But then again, crushing debt and lack of access to education / higher-paying jobs help make sure there are always fresh "volunteers" for ~~the illegal wars of the oligarchs~~ bringing the world democracy and free'm and shit, right?

I use my banks app for check deposit, which you can't do in browser. Saves me a 30 minute drive to the bank. But overall yes, people need to expect more from their banks, and switch if they are being shitty.

Privacy is a personal journey by nature. No use it getting worked up over how private anyone else is.

[–] blackbrook@mander.xyz 4 points 1 day ago

It affects all of us. Every step along the enshittification path happened because people let it, and it makes things worse for the few of us who resisted also.

I cant use OnlineBanking on my phone because the authenticator app of my bank doesn't work without google you stupid fuck head.

[–] Blazkowicz@hexbear.net 2 points 23 hours ago

Have you tried 'microg 4 lineageos'? I've been using most of my bank apps without any issue through it even with strong integrity failing. Not ideal but it works best for me while minimising google's existence in my life better than stock android. It even has OTA updates much longer term than my oem. A major caveat for almost all phones is the firmware can basically never be free, and sim networks are designed for spying anyway.

[–] BakedCatboy@lemmy.ml 7 points 1 day ago

Uhh yeah I did switch banks due to device integrity requirements, but then my new bank started requiring play protect to log in. I can't deposit checks at this bank without the app so I guess I'm switching again.

When talking about fighting capitalism and imperialism i always hear something to the effect of “but, my tasty supermarket snacks”

FUCK YO MUTHA FUCKIN SUPERMARKET SNACKS!!!

Like seriously, you lazy fuck head. You can get your fucking snacks from this thing called a garden. Grow some Cucumber and Beans and stop whining, you weakling!

obviously /s you arrogant wanker

I have an adjacent vent and that is I hate how companies put so little effort into the UX of their mobile web pages. Privacy concerns aside, I would still prefer not to have 100 apps on my phone and just use web pages; but my bank's web page suuuuucks and so well, I have the app.

[–] TiredTiger@lemmy.ml 5 points 23 hours ago

I swear this is purposeful for a lot of websites; they make the mobile site run terribly to push people onto the app instead, presumably because they can collect more data that way.

[–] shortwavesurfer@lemmy.zip -2 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Yeah, fair enough. I just deal with the bad user experience of the mobile website because I absolutely refuse to use the app.

I don't care. I will not put that spyware on my device.

[–] Kirk@startrek.website -1 points 21 hours ago

Your vent was good and justified
