And now people absolutely distrust and detest Chrome, Firefox is having an identity crisis on its hands, Edge is pretty much dead.

Browsers have gotten interestingly bad.

[–] woelkchen@lemmy.world 25 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Edge is pretty much dead.

I honestly don't know why. If you are a Windows user and don't care about privacy, you may just as well stick with Edge. As a Chromium web browser by a megacorp, it's in no way worse than Chrome.

[–] thejml@sh.itjust.works 18 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Honestly, not going with chrome means only one massive corp is stealing your data, not two.

[–] sem@lemmy.blahaj.zone 6 points 3 days ago (1 children)

I thought Chromium still phoned home to Google

[–] Hund@feddit.nu 10 points 3 days ago (1 children)

It does, and there's nothing you can do about it either, other than, obviously, switching to an alternative web browser.

[–] Opal@lemmy.dbzer0.com 6 points 3 days ago (2 children)

All chromium based do, even something like Helium can't remove that?

[–] Hund@feddit.nu 5 points 2 days ago

Helium should be fine. They're, to my understanding, a fork of ungoogled-chromium, and they seem to proxy all calls to Google for you. It shold be a safe enough web browser for 'regular' people who care about their privacy.

[–] badgermurphy@lemmy.world 1 points 3 days ago

Unless they specifically say they don't, they do.

[–] timbuck2themoon@sh.itjust.works 14 points 3 days ago (1 children)

I mean, edge is a viable option for enterprise. Works with gpos, etc. So easy to roll out and lockdown there.

I still think it's garbage like every chromium browser but that's its big sell.

[–] fushuan@piefed.blahaj.zone 1 points 1 day ago

If company is gonna lock downs extensions and force SSO on us, making Firefox non-viable (not that I'm allowed to install it anyway)... Fuck it edge we go, they have a Microsoft SSO stack anyway, it's not like Microsoft isn't tracking what I'm doing already lmao.

And now people absolutely distrust and detest Chrome

What "people" are you referring to? Because Chrome is the most popular browser, by a landslide.

[–] 0x0@infosec.pub 0 points 2 days ago (2 children)

Look beyond your landslide

[–] luciferofastora@feddit.org 1 points 2 days ago

Sure, some people hate it. But for most, using it seems quite the no-brainer. Without that "some", the statement sounds too universal to be accurate.

[–] artyom@piefed.social 0 points 2 days ago

Yes, I guess if you ignore Chrome, everyone hates Chrome...?

[–] empireOfLove2@lemmy.dbzer0.com 14 points 3 days ago

sometimes you can just palpably feel the cocaine exuding from early 2000s corp ceo's

He also laughed at the iPhone, then years later, the windows phone devices bit the big one. He wasn’t very prescient, it seems.

[–] morto@piefed.social 28 points 3 days ago (3 children)

He also called linux a cancer

[–] PushButton@lemmy.world 21 points 3 days ago

Well, on that one, he's right.

We are everywhere, we are growing everyday, I don't see what can stop that from now on.

Even Microsoft is open sourcing their shit. Azure is more than 50% Linux.

Fucking Microsoft has a Linux distro now!

We are cancer, resistance is futile something something waves hand

Cancer spreads quite quickly. Linux adoption sadly does not.

I came here to up-vote this comment.

This is what I recall as well.

[–] jaschen306@sh.itjust.works 5 points 2 days ago

I will say that I loved my Windows Phone. Way ahead of it's time.

[–] green_goglin@thelemmy.club 26 points 3 days ago

Fuck Google. Fuck Microslop.

[–] homesweethomeMrL@lemmy.world 14 points 3 days ago (2 children)

That was a different coke-fueled rampage. But yes.

[–] resipsaloquitur@lemmy.cafe 6 points 3 days ago

Give it up for MEEEEE!

[–] brsrklf@jlai.lu 3 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Is that the one where he's screaming "I... LOVE... THIS... COMPANYYY!!!" instead? Or was that the same one?

[–] homesweethomeMrL@lemmy.world 3 points 2 days ago

That's the one. The "developers! developers! developers!" one was a different one.

[–] X@piefed.world 13 points 3 days ago

His spraining his ankle in that will always be funny.

[–] THE_GR8_MIKE@lemmy.world 22 points 3 days ago

Both are shit anyway, which we all know here. But normies love their Chrome.

[–] sylver_dragon@lemmy.world 17 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Edge is just Chrome with a Microslop skin. They went from crushing Netscape so hard it got open sourced (mostly via monopoly shenanigans) to copying Google's homework. And their attempts at mobile anything has been failure (Windows CE) after failure (Windows Phone) after failure (Windows for ARM).

If it weren't for Office and companies' undying love of Active Directory and Exchange, Microslop would be a memory and little more.

[–] sem@lemmy.blahaj.zone 7 points 3 days ago

And outlook. Idk why but companies love outlook. And teams. 🤢🤮

[–] random_character_a@lemmy.world 15 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Gee, never held Steve Ballmer as pilar of accuracy.

[–] deadbeef79000@lemmy.nz 5 points 3 days ago

Steve Balmer is a pill.

What is it with Steves in technology being just the worst (Woz is Woz, not Steve).

[–] Tronn4@lemmy.world 7 points 3 days ago

Bring back Netscape Navigator

Poor Google, demoralised when another monopoly says it's not going to break into it's monopoly.

But fortunately Google used it's search monopoly to aggressively push Chrome, and now all that data that Microsoft used to scrape, Google now does.

Happy ending for the monopoly.

[–] Stefan_S_from_H@piefed.zip 8 points 3 days ago

KHTML won the browser war.

[–] stolig@lemmy.world 2 points 2 days ago

Wait…don’t you need AOL just to get to the Internet?

[–] IWW4@lemmy.zip 4 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Lol it only took 17 years to prove hom wrong.

Loooooooooooooooollll

[–] XLE@piefed.social 2 points 3 days ago

He could have shrugged it off (on his way to the bank) after one year!
