6 was a hot mess 5 was good because of co-op but they made Wesker turn into NEO and Chris could punch boulders in half.

Resident evil has never been grounded in reality but I'm the first 3 games at least they stayed grounded to some extent.

6 is terrible. Maybe best Capcom forgets it exists.

I'm playing re5 now for the first time - I really don't think I'm gonna be able to finish it. The AI assistant girl is a fucking mess and constantly wasting ammo when I'm trying to save ammo, and it's just an action game. Feels like grand theft auto with checkpoints or something. I have no idea how they could have gone from re4 to re5 honestly.

I just don't think there is anything of substance there to remake... It's just not really a good game (and I'm not playing co-op, apparently that's the only good thing about the game)

Without casting aspersions on RE5 & RE6, this isn’t all that surprising for two reasons:

  1. They don’t really need remakes. We are entering the HD era of games here, and RE5 was not an early entrant of that era like some of the similar remakes we are seeing, like Dead Rising and Oblivion. They have been porting them to recent consoles, they have modern control schemes and are very accessible. You COULD remake them, but you wouldn’t be achieving much.

  2. They don’t appeal to the audience that modern Resident Evil has been cultivating. They lean far too hard into action, and modern RE has been defined by incorporating both. They have nailed this almost every time, releasing a near flawless string of new entries and remakes that their entire audience can consume and enjoy.

I’m biased because they are my two least favourite entries by far, but even trying to set this aside this gels with what I’m seeing from Capcom. Especially with the announcement of CVX, a game that I would never have expected them to remake. If that does well and keeping this in mind, you should expect REmake 2, RE0 Remake and RE10 before getting your hopes up on 5 & 6.

Can't replicate that boulder punch 😤

I loved the co-op. Solving puzzles with friends, the facing the mad chainsaw welding zombies. But I know apart from the action and boulder punching issues, why I think, and this is just my thought and in no way maybe the real reason, Capcom would not make a remake of 5 is because of the African setting, which as a South African I loved, but because mostly you are a white character mostly shooting mindless and violent black zombies. Even if it is fiction, the main villain was a white guy it doesn't matter, I remember there was a small murmur regarding this issue back then, now in the 2020s with people much more vocal regarding social issues, I do not think Capcom would open themselves to scrutiny. The thing for me is that game was made during that time, just like how certain Disney or Looney Toons were made during a certain time, but cannot be made in today's environment

Never played 6 but 5 was a solid coop shooter

Those games were more action than horror angst, so it’s best to forget them.

Really? I think these are good games in their own right. Good games shouldn't be forgotten.

That’s fair, but not every game needs a remake. They can still be remembered.
