That's one of the main reasons why traditional methods of dealing with the heat here in Germany (widely open the windows at night, close windows and lower blinds during daytime) don't work any more and the up-to-now AC-reluctant Germans are increasingly beginning to embrace AC.
The other reasons the traditional cooling methods don't work here any more are the increased length of the heat waves (after more than three or four days the heat will start trickling through our traditionally massive outer walls) and also the higher maximum temperatures.
