Can we just stop? Just stop. There is no legitimate reason to keep doing this to people and the planet.

"The order also requires Chemours to reduce “facility-wide” emissions of “GenX compounds” by at least 99%. “GenX compounds” encompasses just three kinds of PFAS chemicals, Taylor said.

Taylor did not respond to questions about why the agency would test for three compounds facility wide, but about 50 from the thermal oxidizer, but reiterated that Chemours emissions are in compliance with the consent order. He noted Chemours is only legally required to reduce emissions emitting from inside the plant, but is not responsible for PFAS in the air outside the plant."

Where the fuck else are they suggesting it comes from?

Kind of like how the fetuses are all-important, but once they're born, fuck 'em. They're on they're own. Dear lord I hate this country.

What do you mean there's no legitimate reason? The system requires Chemours to reduce costs and increase profits.

Greed

[–] Reverendender@sh.itjust.works 2 points 9 months ago (1 children)

Greed is not legitimate by any stretch

[–] Coreidan@lemmy.world 1 points 9 months ago

Depends on what you define as legitimate.

Even if they were telling the truth, which they weren't, that still meant that they were emitting PFAS. Multiply that by all the factories on Earth that emit them even if all of them cut their emissions by that much and it's still too much PFAS.

But then my dockers pants won't properly wick away my diet coke when it spills on my crotch!

If I have to put butter in a frying pan, what even is the point of cooking?

That's the only way I'm gonna be able to cook my Plastic squeeze tube of processed onion matter in a civilized fashion.

[–] guyrocket@kbin.social 3 points 9 months ago (1 children)

They will when they're made of 100% plastic instead of the 45% they have now.

This is the American ingenuity I live for

Tl:Dr

Chemours is blurring the line between legal truth and actual truth. They had orders to reduce emissions, but how PFAS was defined in those orders left then a lot of wiggle room on how to proceed. Add on that they knew the kinds of tests the state would run which didn't capture all PFAS so they didn't need to take action on everything.
