I don't like racing games.
I never wanted to be child Anakin podracing.
When I originally saw this game all those years ago I thought it was a dumb idea.

I LOVED THE HELL OUT OF THIS GAME!
It was just FUN. Period. They didn't attempt to justify it. They didn't even really attempt to balance it. Once you upgraded your pod a bit you could do back to easier tracks and SMOKE everyone. Just dumb fun. Loved it.

I remember this being one of the few games available for Mac at that time. Good memories.

The pod controls just lent themselves so very well to the Nintendo 64 controller. The ideal way to play was with two controllers so you had two sticks. GoldenEye 007 also supported two controllers per player.

This and Diddy Kong Racing are the two best racing games ever made, and nobody will ever convince me otherwise. (F-Zero GX would be here too if I weren't so bad at it).

Good arcade racers are definitely few and far between nowadays.

instead you made a great racing game that was fairly consistent on whatever platform it was on. I had this on PC when it originally released and heck own it again on Steam and N64. It's a simple racer but it's damn fun. the mechanics were simple but still great like when you'd damage one of your pods and had to "fix it". no weapons, no other real gimmicks, just plowing into other racers and hope you can blow up their pods.

Playing Episode 1 Racer captivated exactly the feeling it needed to. It made you feel like you were barely in control of this hyper hotrod dragster that was trying ro rip itself apart at every moment. The controls were loose enough to make that fantasy believable, while still being tight enough to not be overly frustrating. The development team did a really good job with it.
