Maybe the real monetisation strategy is discovering exactly how uncomfortable readers can get before they stop visiting entirely.

they don't need ai to tell them ai is part of the reason. nor do they to know the other is because the company has turned to shit under vulture fund ownership, a trend that probably started even a little earlier than that---when they split print and broadcast into separate companies.

I'm surprised Google hasn't just turned reading the news online into a tiktok like feed experience where no one ever goes to the full article on a news site.
Reddit did that a decade or two ago. Most arguments about a posted news article are just fights over the headline
