That's some finger-wagging from Canada and our allies.

Support for Gaza settlement growing fast in Israel. Although leaders of the Israeli left and centre condemned the event, Tel Aviv University's Peace Index poll last Wednesday showed that about 53 per cent of Jewish Israelis are in favour of the idea of settling Gaza — twice the number that support a two-state solution.

...

"If a brigade commander now gives an order to evacuate two illegal outposts in the West Bank or indeed in Gaza, you're going to have a bunch of soldiers who may disobey orders," he said. "And if that happens, then all hell breaks loose. This is a country that will be seriously considered as having unraveled at the seams. "We're not there yet. But there are very disconcerting signs about this."

Where do they think these "voluntarily emigrated" refugees are gonna go? A significant chunk are going to land in the West and if the current events are any guide, they will make the pro-Palestinian voice in the West louder as they become Western voters and taxpayers. You know, kinda like the Jewish immigrants did after WWII.

I have a feeling that Hamas might not succeed in wiping out Israel but they may end up causing Israeli democracy to self-destruct.

You'd think that, of all nations, that Israel wouldn't have treated the rise of Nazi Germany as a how-to.

Quite the "Mission Accomplished" moment for Israel....

Mission Accomplished

I've got to say, as someone that's generally been supportive of Israel during this conflict seeing their government completely reject the idea of Palestinian statehood and take steps away from peace has been very demoralizing, and makes me seriously question how truthful they're being when they say they avoid civilian causalities, etc. Anecdotally I've noticed fewer pro-Israel comments on Lemmy which I think is demonstrating just how badly Israel's government has burned / is burning their international credibility and goodwill.

I think many got suckered into thinking Bibi and friends are acting in good faith. I had some conversations with friends towards the beginning of the conflict where I expressed utmost doubts towards his motives and goals whereas they were of the opinion that he won't be allowed to drag this war further than it needed to be. At the time I bet that he'll extend the conflict as long as possible, potentially pivoting in other perilous directions, dragging everyone along him in the mud. It seems that's already happening. What I'm surprised by however is the proportion of Israelis in support of .. displacement policies. I was told that's a minority. Today it seems like quite a large proportion.
