People take their phone to the shower?

My phone has a projector built into it. I just reno'd the bathroom with relatively flat white walls. Put a gooseneck bike phone mount on the shower head rough-in. Now I watch YouTube on the wall while I shower.

[–] RiceMunk@sopuli.xyz 29 points 2 days ago (1 children)

I sometimes take mine to the shower room, when I'm in the middle of a podcast pr something I wanna finish listening to, but then I'm quickly reminded of what a welcome reprieve a shower is of the constant media bombardment hellscape we exist in.

I want a shower I can lay down in. That would be nice. I miss having one I can sit down in. It was great for meditation.

[–] Opisek@piefed.blahaj.zone 35 points 2 days ago (3 children)

Water resistant*

The difference is, if you do end up getting some water damage, the manufacturer will tell you to go please yourself!

[–] jaybone@lemmy.zip 24 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Which you can also do in the shower.

[–] affenlehrer@feddit.org 16 points 2 days ago

With the phone. It's can vibrate and show porn.

If, while showering, your device is submerged to a depth where this distinction matters, you have way bigger issues to be dealing with...

This is directed to everyone who has posted in this thread who mentioned they have their phone in or nearby while they shower for music, audio books, etc.

Why?

How long are you showering that you need some content to fill the time?
It honestly concerns me that some people can't go five to ten minutes, alone with their own thoughts.

Someone here mentioned meditation, and that is how I shower. A quick, five minute chance to disconnect from the noise of the world.

Yeah sorry bud some of our lives are real awful and the quiet just lets us remember.

[–] kibiz0r@midwest.social 13 points 2 days ago

Everyone’s life works differently. Let them enjoy themselves.

[–] athatet@lemmy.zip 7 points 2 days ago

You think I wanna be hanging out for fifteen minutes WITH MY OWN THOUGHTS. you are crazier than I am.

[–] yermaw@sh.itjust.works 7 points 2 days ago

My phone has replaced basically every content machine in my vicinity. I'm not buying a shower radio when I have a phone

For some of us, shower phone time is one of the only times I get to use my phone.

I'm just an overworked ADHD programmer, I don't at my phone unless there's a convenient moment during the day. Shower time is when I get to catch up on my YouTube subscriptions.

[–] Funkt4st1c@lemmy.world 9 points 2 days ago (1 children)

My wife has mixed irish and black hair. It takes legit 25 minutes with running water (45+ without) to detangle her hair.

Most people i know take 20+ minute showers. I fully believed they were lying when the local water company did a presentation at my elementary school and priced out 5-10 minutes for a shower.

Dancing in the shower without music isn't nearly as fun 🤷

[–] HeyThisIsntTheYMCA@lemmy.world 5 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago)

if i don't have music playing i might fall asleep in the shower. like, just monday my wife had to wake me up because i forgot my phone.

[–] square@lemmy.zip 5 points 2 days ago

The shower and the shitter are the last places I'm alone with my thoughts. Not giving it up.

2nd paragraph is a bit unwarranted but I have been a phone in the shower user before.

It's like a book in the shower except your phone is water resistant (could also put it in a plastic bag for even more protection). I used it to read my comics. Don't do it anymore because my new phone is a flip phone and thats not the same level of water resistance as my old phone, but it was nice back then.

I have a cheap water-resistant speaker now that I use to listen to music or random talks

[–] boonhet@lemmy.zip 3 points 2 days ago

I don't get it either. It's my only "me" time unless I'm working on my car at night. But I put on a podcast or audiobook in the garage usually (not always). I like having SOME time when I can just... Exist. Alone. In hot running water. With nothing but my thoughts.

But tough times have given me tons of mental fortitude to get through just about anything and perhaps not everyone's brain is wired the same. I suspect for someone with severe anxiety, it's very different and being alone with their thoughts might be the worst thing. And anxiety disorders are pretty common these days from what I've heard

I slipped on a banana peel and the peel landed on my penis and then my penis fell off and now I'm DEI and Thanksgiving dinner is in ONLY TWO HOURS!!!

[–] Photonic@lemmy.world 5 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

Maybe you can still try sone DIY, or if all of that fails some DUI

[–] Confused_Emus@lemmy.dbzer0.com 21 points 2 days ago (2 children)

ITT: People who have apparently never heard of a Bluetooth shower speaker.

[–] datavoid@sh.itjust.works 7 points 2 days ago (1 children)

I have used my Bluetooth speaker every day since I bought it like 3 years ago, I never imagined how much I'd enjoy it

Water droplets on phone screens are too OP

[–] tetris11@feddit.uk 7 points 2 days ago (2 children)

I hate Isekai. I just don't get it.

[–] Amnesigenic@lemmy.ml 15 points 2 days ago (1 children)

You don't get why people would fantasize about getting to leave their old shitty life behind and start a new one in a cooler place with cooler friends or a new body or magic powers? I'm not a huge fan either but the appeal is pretty straightforward.

[–] cmbabul@slrpnk.net 5 points 2 days ago

Especially in the time and place we all currently occupy

[–] riskable@programming.dev 10 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Isekai is just the fantasy version of sci-fi. It presents that, "what if?" question but (usually) with cat girls, swords, and magic.

[–] tetris11@feddit.uk 7 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Yeah, it's the what if totally ungrounded outside of reality that bothers me, because if anything is possible, then there are literally no stakes. The writer can deus ex anything

[–] _stranger_@lemmy.world 9 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Right, this is why a lot of them suck. There are good ones though, depending on what you like of course.

[–] diffaldo@lemmy.dbzer0.com 4 points 2 days ago (2 children)

Can I have some recommendations pls.

[–] nyctre@piefed.social 4 points 2 days ago

I'm on season 2 of re:zero right now and I'm enjoying it.

[–] _stranger_@lemmy.world 5 points 2 days ago (1 children)

I'm honestly not a huge fan of the genre myself, but in general I find "I don't want to be a badass I just want to be a carefree adventurer " slice-of-life type ones the best.

Fun with a dumb premise: Campfire Cooking. The protagonist is in magical world and his super power is that he can buy groceries from his home world "online" and have them magically shipped to the new world.

[–] tetris11@feddit.uk 5 points 2 days ago (1 children)
[–] _stranger_@lemmy.world 4 points 1 day ago (1 children)

it helps that there's plenty of food porn 🤣

[–] tetris11@feddit.uk 2 points 1 day ago

another trend I don't get

So there are people out there, whose gender is Hannah Montana?
