Welcome to the Unpopular Opinion community!

How voting works:

Vote the opposite of the norm.

If you agree that the opinion is unpopular give it an arrow up. If it's something that's widely accepted, give it an arrow down.

Guidelines:

Tag your post, if possible (not required)

  • If your post is a "General" unpopular opinion, start the subject with [GENERAL].
  • If it is a Lemmy-specific unpopular opinion, start it with [LEMMY].

Rules:

1. NO POLITICS

Politics is everywhere. Let's make this about [general] and [lemmy] - specific topics, and keep politics out of it.

2. Be civil.

Disagreements happen, but that doesn’t provide the right to personally attack others. No racism/sexism/bigotry. Please also refrain from gatekeeping others' opinions.

3. No bots, spam or self-promotion.

Only approved bots, which follow the guidelines for bots set by the instance, are allowed.

4. Shitposts and memes are allowed but...

Only until they prove to be a problem. They can and will be removed at moderator discretion.

5. No trolling.

This shouldn't need an explanation. If your post or comment is made just to get a rise with no real value, it will be removed. You do this too often, you will get a vacation to touch grass, away from this community for 1 or more days. Repeat offenses will result in a perma-ban.

6. Defend your opinion

This is a bit of a mix of rules 4 and 5 to help foster higher quality posts. You are expected to defend your unpopular opinion in the post body. We don't expect a whole manifesto (please, no manifestos), but you should at least provide some details as to why you hold the position you do.

Instance-wide rules always apply. https://legal.lemmy.world/tos/

I don't care what y'all think. Nothing about my food being hot or even warm makes it any better for me. I always burn tongue and even if I don't, I really don't enjoy rushing to swallow because my mouth is at risk of inflicting pain. Even when it's slightly warm, I don't like it. I want my food stone cold, no matter what the food is.

I always let my food cool down, not even to room temperature, I let it cool even longer and I eat everything stone cold. It lets me properly savor the flavor, without worrying about too much heat. Eating cold food for me is a relaxing experience, eating hot food is a panic-inducing one, and eating slightly warm food is boring, not any better than stone cold food. I'll even gladly eat food straight out of the fridge and enjoy it! I've been called "crazy" and "perverse" for this many, many times.

I like my food stone cold and refuse to eat it even mildly warm, always letting it cool down way below room temperature. Screw what anyone thinks πŸ˜†

Yeah that's definitely unpopular. I could not imagine eating everything cold, like what the fuck?

[–] Miisha@lemmy.blahaj.zone 24 points 5 days ago (1 children)

Sue me
I do indeed eat everything cold. I get soo much shit from my bf for that πŸ˜‚

I used to get ripped on for eating Chunky soup from a can on construction sites.

The caveat it, during winter you need warm food to get your body temp back up, but spring to fall, fair game.

So when did you find out you had autism?

[–] AnalogAllamma@lemmy.world 9 points 5 days ago (1 children)

A single visit Stone Cold Creamery must of triggered it.

Upvoted for being dumbass

[–] andrewta@lemmy.world 41 points 5 days ago (1 children)

If you are that concerned about burning your mouth or your tongue on even slightly warm food, I can recommend a really good therapist to help you out on that.

[–] Miisha@lemmy.blahaj.zone 17 points 5 days ago

I'm currently switching therapists, so not talking to one at the moment. However, I'm almost positive I have some form of OCD, not just because of this.

[–] Evotech@lemmy.world 18 points 4 days ago

Possibly the worst opinion here

How does this even work if you eat somewhere that doesn’t have a fridge for you to cool your food below room temperature? What’s wrong with you that you β€œalways” burn your tongue even at nonburning temps?

Sensory differences are a thing. Although I doubt OP literally "burns" their tongue on luke-warm foods, it's possible OP has a sensory difference that makes warm food more difficult to tolerate, or possibly even painful.

For me, my brain interprets certain light touches as "painful." I can tolerate having my hairs pulled out one-by-one and feel fine, but touch me in the wrong spot with a feather and I'll scream. I can easily imagine other people may have crossed wires in their nervous system somewhere that make certain temperature sensations on a sensitive tongue feel painful.

[–] Cethin@lemmy.zip 25 points 5 days ago (2 children)

This is not an insult. Have you taken any tests to see if you may be autistic? If not, you should.

[–] kolmaskommentoija@sopuli.xyz 10 points 5 days ago (2 children)

I enjoy my food cold as well, and I am diagnosed as autistic. So you might be onto something.

[–] Diplomjodler3@lemmy.world 3 points 4 days ago

That was my first thought too. Definitely not medical advice, though.

No but I'm fairly certain I have at least some kind of OCD

[–] DJKJuicy@sh.itjust.works 11 points 4 days ago

Upvote for an actual unpopular opinion. Well done.

[–] cerebralhawks@lemmy.dbzer0.com 32 points 5 days ago (9 children)

That is a hot take, irony intended.

There’s probably some good scientific reason for eating meat hot. And coffee? I can kinda deal but the tea? Throw it straight out if it’s not piping hot and I don’t care how the Americans take it.

[–] Miisha@lemmy.blahaj.zone 10 points 5 days ago (1 children)

Yeah, umm...coffe and tea both. Stone cold, just like my food πŸ˜†
Not even joking...

[–] Janx@piefed.social 3 points 4 days ago (2 children)

This raises further questions for me, since I'm a wanna-be coffee afficianado. You get much lower extraction at lower temperatures, with both coffee and tea. Do you grind coffee finer to compensate, or do you just enjoy weaker beverages? Also, do you mean room temperature, tap-water cold, or actually chilled? How do you make coffee (and tea)? Thank you in advance!

In case you ever want to try eating warm food again, try putting a stone next to the food in the oven. That way the food will be stone cold and warm at the same time.

[–] Janx@piefed.social 2 points 4 days ago

That rocks.

Objectively and demonstrably wrong. Excellent post.

[–] thatsTheCatch@lemmy.nz 15 points 5 days ago (1 children)

I think this wins the comm. Even more than the BJ post

[–] victorz@lemmy.world 4 points 4 days ago

Coincidentally, OP shared in that post that she enjoys giving blowjobs.

I kind of imagine her mouth being super cold now, which ruined that mental image for me a little bit. πŸ˜‚

[–] rockSlayer@lemmy.blahaj.zone 19 points 5 days ago

I cannot comprehend this. Seriously, all the more power to you but what the fuck

I eat a lot of cold meals and this is still wild to me. Definitely an unpopular take.

[–] remon@ani.social 3 points 4 days ago* (last edited 4 days ago) (3 children)

"Stone cold" usually describes a facial expression, not a temperature.

always letting it cool down way below room temperature

You can't let something cool below room temperature as it would just reach equilibrium at room temperature. You have to actively cool it (like put it in a fridge) to cool it below room temperature.

[–] JadedBlueEyes@programming.dev 4 points 4 days ago (2 children)

Stone cold describes temperature just as often. Right??

[–] Whats_your_reasoning@lemmy.world 3 points 4 days ago* (last edited 4 days ago)

According to Merriam-Webster's dictionary, its first entry is literal, with figurative use second.

stone-cold

"1 : completely cold"

So yes, it is absolutely used to describe temperature.

So, you put all food in the fridge before eating it? Because otherwise it's impossible to cool down below room temperature. πŸ€“

You must really like Cold Stone Creamery and Stone Cold Steve Austin.

[–] tachikoma@lemmy.today 4 points 4 days ago* (last edited 4 days ago)

You think cereal is better cold?!

There really are a lot of strange people on the internet. 😏 /s

[–] cannedtuna@lemmy.world 11 points 5 days ago

You must love gazpacho

[–] victorz@lemmy.world 6 points 4 days ago (1 children)

How do you "let something cool down" further than room temperature? You can't really let something just sit still and cool more than the ambient temperature, so you must use some form of cooling element, like ice cubes or something.

Or this is bait, I honestly can't tell.

[–] Miisha@lemmy.blahaj.zone 4 points 4 days ago (5 children)

How do you β€œlet something cool down” further than room temperature?

Fridge

Not bait

I feel exactly opposite to this. If I never ate any cold food again it would be too soon.

[–] motoxjake@lemmy.zip 3 points 4 days ago (1 children)

I love cold Pizza and cold fried chicken. That's where I draw the line unless it's food that is meant to be served cold/room temp.

[–] square@lemmy.zip 2 points 4 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago)

I consider both of those to be completely different foods from their hot versions. It's always hard for me to decide if I want the leftovers heated up or not.

[–] agent_nycto@lemmy.world 4 points 4 days ago

This is like the inverse of Hot Grapes

[–] Mouselemming@sh.itjust.works 6 points 5 days ago (4 children)

I think you're tasting a different flavor profile than the rest of us because for instance sugar is less tasteable cold. But that's okay, you enjoy your food whatever way you like it! Also, your way is much easier to deal with than someone who wants their food piping hot. Any delay can overcook or burn their food. Not you! Make ahead, put in fridge, come back anytime between 20 minutes and 24 hours later, it will be nice and cold, safe and unchanged.

Definitely unpopular. In a strange way I kind of agree about not wanting to burn your mouth, that's horrible and not worth it. I'll sometimes sit and wait for several minutes for my plate to cool if it's steaming hot, even when I'm hungry and other people around me are eating. But there's always a point where it's obviously safe and still nicely warm which is much better than being cold.

[–] EatMyPixelDust@lemmy.blahaj.zone 5 points 5 days ago (1 children)

I don't eat everything cold, but I like some foods cold and a day old, like pizza, it almost always tastes better than fresh, in my opinion.
