From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Linux is a family of open source Unix-like operating systems based on the Linux kernel, an operating system kernel first released on September 17, 1991 by Linus Torvalds. Linux is typically packaged in a Linux distribution (or distro for short).

Distributions include the Linux kernel and supporting system software and libraries, many of which are provided by the GNU Project. Many Linux distributions use the word "Linux" in their name, but the Free Software Foundation uses the name GNU/Linux to emphasize the importance of GNU software, causing some controversy.

Those trying to access the Ubuntu website, ISO downloads, and similar Ubuntu resources today are finding the site inoperable amid what's now confirmed as an ongoing distributed denial of service attack.

Unfortunately, Ubuntu is once again facing a distributed denial of service "DDoS" attack against its web infrastructure. This isn't the first time they have experienced this issue and Canonical's IT team is currently working to mitigate the attack.

Ubuntu down

The Canonical status page is currently tracking the incident. Confirmation of the Ubuntu DDoS attack was also posted to the Ubuntu Discourse.

Why?

I can think of a few reasons ppl would enjoy the schadenfreude of Ubuntu with their uptime in a vice, but which one are we talking about here?

Definite misnomer for the corpo ai distro, maybe they should rename themselves to mcwindos or mcaihole, or similar?

i wonder why this keeps happening to them.

Because they're a popular distro from a comparatively small company, so people who want to attack things rather than build things see them as an easy target?
