Well done meta for creating a zombie social network double quick!

Everything meta does is so weird and coercive. It leaves such a bad taste for me. This feels an extension of the “don’t delete your account! Here are all the pictures of people who will MISS YOU!” nonsense facebook used to do, or the now-normalized waiting periods and hidden settings for being able to delete accounts. They’re always finding little ways to overstep and encroach, because they just can’t accept that people might not want to use their service in exactly they way the company would make the most money from. It makes it all feel so gross.

Does anyone know what the author's point is here? Failing to see it

They're saying that there is a 2 for 1 special! If you delete Threads, there is an automatic bonus of deleting Instagram with no extra steps!

Is that a threat or a promise?

Has there been a discussion about Beehaw defederating from Threads and if so could someone direct me there please? I desperately do not want to interact with Meta products, even accidentally. I read what the mastodon guy wrote about how in his opinion they can't track you if you're on another instance but that doesn't jive with with the information meta has put out. It makes me really uncomfortable. I've heard enough horror stories about them (up to and including facilitating literal genocide...or ethnic killing if you're trying to put a "positive" spin on it) and I want my social media to be free of that company.
