Russia is arresting anyone with ties to the U.S. in an attempt to build up their negotiating chips. Several U.S. citizens are being held in Russia right now on fake charges.

A conservative (like Putin) is not capable of honesty. Every word uttered by a conservative is deception or manipulation. Every word.

Hopefully the woman arrested was Tucker Carlson 🇷🇺

He's no woman. He's a lil' puta.

Lol, censors dont work for Spanish

[–] Vespair@lemm.ee 20 points 9 months ago (2 children)

Censors? I thought the point of leaving corporate sites like Reddit was to avoid the corporate-nannying.

Don't be an asshole to others, yes, but straight policing of language is bullshit

The point was to have lots of different places, so if you don't like the rules of one, you can go to another.

It's the freedom of choice to choose what communities you want to be a part of, not the freedom to say whatever you like with no regard to other people in the community.

What is the reason for a federated instance that censors words? Does it censor words from other instances?

[–] 520@kbin.social 3 points 9 months ago* (last edited 9 months ago) (1 children)

The censoring is a local setting, meaning the actual data in the database is untouched. It's only being censored at user level. But yes, any instance being viewed though that instance's web app is being censored.

There may be an option to turn it off. Look in your user settings.

[–] FlyingSquid@lemmy.world 4 points 9 months ago (1 children)

I understand that. But does it apply to other instances you're reading as well? Does it censor other instances for you?

[–] 520@kbin.social 4 points 9 months ago* (last edited 9 months ago) (1 children)

Yes. Any instance you're reading through your own instance's web app.

So if I'm registered on Lemmy.ml, and have censoring turned on, and then browse to kbin via Lemmy.ml, the data from kbin will also be censored.

To drive the point home, I am registered on kbin. Kbin doesn't have this feature. I can see everything posted here perfectly uncensored.

Interesting. Thanks for the info!

Having safe spaces in the public square is fine so long as nobody is trying to turn the whole of the public square into one. I see the value if an instance wants to wholesale ban all negativity so as to create a island of positivity in the ocean of discontent, for one example. My objection was only to the implication of terms pertaining to the whole of the public square.

[–] FlyingSquid@lemmy.world 2 points 9 months ago (2 children)

No, I understand that. My issue was more of a technical one. Unless the instance can ban all swearing in other instances, I don't see the point.

[–] Vespair@lemm.ee 2 points 9 months ago (1 children)

Ah gotcha. Yeah I'm not tech-savvy enough for that inquiry, sorry for misinterpreting your point ✌

[–] FlyingSquid@lemmy.world 3 points 9 months ago

No worries. Someone else answered- yes, they do censor all other instances for readers.

[–] Vespair@lemm.ee 2 points 9 months ago

Yeah of course, I'm not talking about "free speech absolution!" or any other Elon Musk bullshit, just freedom from the disingenuous nannying of corporations and the need to be "advertiser friendly."

I, of course, understand the point and merits of instanced federation, but I think it's still okay to speak in wide generalities when more specific language isn't needed.

My point isn't that instances shouldn't be allowed to censor however they see fit, of course they should, my point is that the "default" censorship of much of the internet has nothing to do with merit or conduct or even morality and is instead almost entirely catering to advertisers so we shouldn't embrace said "default" censorship.

[–] PugJesus@kbin.social 0 points 9 months ago

Lemmy.ml has censors built in, I think.

[–] Deceptichum@sh.itjust.works 19 points 9 months ago (1 children)

He’s a whore?

Censors don’t work when your instance doesn’t treat you like a child and censor you either.

Puta can have many meanings, almost all of them are obscenities. Here I believe the translation would be 'little bitch', although the correct phrase would be putita.

You've also got 'puta X' which roughly translates to 'fuck X'.

It is a very flexible word in the Spanish lexicon xD

[–] TigrisMorte@kbin.social 1 points 9 months ago

Tucker la putita Carlson

[–] TigrisMorte@kbin.social 11 points 9 months ago

Guys, I'm thinking it may not be safe for US associated People to be anywhere in Pootie's influence.

[–] andrew_bidlaw@sh.itjust.works 3 points 9 months ago

Iirc the sum she allegedly sent from an american bank to the UAF fundraiser is reported as low as $58. Sentences for treason are between 12 and 20 years. Originally she was arrested for small administrative charges but as she was held captive they probably accessed her phone.

That morgue Navalny is in is going to start to get crowded.
