Lemmy App List

Not if u 're using GrapheneOS but yeah you re right, the stock OS is a nightmare
That would be Samsung. By far.
I'd say it's Xiaomi
You would say that, although no idea how it should be worse than Huawei or Samsung.
Look at these lists, Samsung had the worst bloat of all.
I would highly appreciate some updated lists :D although custom Android OSses are the only way to degoogle/detrack
Thank you for that. I'm gonna use it when I buy a new phone :)
What if I install Lineage to it? That's what I intend to do when my Pixel 8 gets here.
Give Grapheneos a try!
I like the fact it de-google's the device and strips the preinstalled BS; but It says it doesn't even come with the Play Store. How would I get my normal apps?
It doesn't include the Playstore per se, but it does provide an installer for a sandboxed Playstore.
You can get Aurora store from fdroid which lets you download apps without having a google account.
It has the playstore, even has android auto now.
Fair warning, you do lose access to some offline AI features like improved voice dictation and song recognition as well as Google Pay. I'm okay with the tradeoff personally but it is still a downside.
Seconding the GrapheneOS recommendation. This is the privacy respecting route to take.
what advantage are there to lineage? i used to use dirty unicorn.
It lets you remove the pre installed crap and was faster and used less power to save on battery life when I used it before.
>No SD card slot
>No 3.5mm jack
Incredible.
I'm a diehard headphone jack enthusiast, and yet I still switched to a Pixel 8 (had a Galaxy S9 previously). The unfortunate reality is that just about everything above the "bargain bin phone" price point has given up on the headphone jack (at least in the US market), and the options that do exist (Asus, Sony) have crappy software update policies*. I still hate not having it, but honestly its been a pretty decent phone otherwise. Granted my perception of the price point for it is a little skewed, since I got a 256GB model for $510.
*Plus my carrier sucks and only supports VoLTE on Samsung, Apple, and Pixel...
I feel like 10 to 15 years we wouldn't let this shit fly, but nowadays we've become so complacent and just let companies stomp all over us. Phones keep getting more expensive and (in my opinion) worse and yet they break sales records.
After pixel 5 or 6 I'm done I think. Before the free photo storage was an advantage but after enshitification I'm done with it. I'll probably go back to Motorola or Nokia.
What a joke! It's literally the LAST phone I'd ever consider buying. With that Tensor junk inside and a very basic UI, plus the actual design of the phone is quite ugly with that horrible camera bar.
Wonder how much Google paid for the result?
