Spreading election lies (and that's what these deepfakes are), needs to be a felony, not protected by the 1st amendment.

Spreading false voting information -- like the example in the article about fake phone calls saying polling places are closed -- is a crime in the US, whether or not it's online, it's just hot particularly well enforced.

It's not the big, loud disinformation that's the most worrying; at least that can be addressed head-on. It's the subtle, divisive manipulation that's been going on for years that has us disowning family and flirting with civil war.
