One of the story arcs of Slumdog Millionaire.

I completely agree. 5 year support is plenty of time, but I just don't know if I can trust their longevity yet. $500 for this device is definitely not excessive, but there are still unknowns.

I haven't done modding since the CyanogenMod days, but I'd want the option.

I wish I could go to a standard dumb phone, but I rely on communication apps that just don't work on them :/ Kudos to you for being able to do that!

Yeah, the discipline part is super difficult for most people (myself included). I had to give myself a larger hurdle than just the uninstall... I deleted my accounts lol I understand that's not feasible for most people, but I was desperate to get off of them, so I took desperate measures. Devices similar to the one you got are perfect for allowing people to detox from the mobile aspect of those apps, while still allowing us to use the services on the desktop. Then, when the detox period is up and you're fully off the addiction, you can get the standard phone back.

People don't understand that just like we collect trinkets, the ultrarich collect money. They'll never have enough, because there'll always be more to collect... everyone else be damned.

You bring up really, really points, and have piqued my interest in the device. The thing holding me back (besides OP's DOA :( ) is the security updates. How long will their OS truly be supported? They claim 5 years, but they're a young company and can't actually promise that. Is their bootloader unlocked? Because if so, I can try and load a custom OS, once their security updates are done. This last bit is what's held me back from most of these eink devices, actually. Maybe the display will become cheap enough that I can buy one, and outfit my own device... one day.

I don't either. From what you say, it sound great to me.

And they're contesting it! Little shite wankers.

Ah ok, so instead of minimizing your own usage by uninstalling apps and such, you're getting help from the device's physical inability to use those apps and, thus, remove the temptations. Ok, cool! That's actually a pretty nice use of the tech!

It is not cheap, but it looks amazing! That's my dilemma, I'm not sure if I'd use it enough to justify the price for me. But I really want to haha

I didn't miss it, it's just not something I would give up other needed functionality over. It also has a 3.5mm audio jack, which I also terribly miss, but, again, not something I would add if I had to give up a good camera, for example (bad example, since I know phones can have both, but the manufacturers just choose not to). Your soft keyboard sounds hellish, honestly. Not sure if it's a possibility for you, but you may want to look at others (obviously, none will be as good as a physical keyboard, but maybe you can get something better than you have now).

What a “use case” when it’s at home?

I don't understand what you're asking. Can you elaborate?
