I live near a village called St John's Town of Dalry and no one says sinjin nor have I heard anyone's name referred to that way.

A quick Google shows that they charged over thirties in the UK double for a premium account.

Devils advocate says that is because older people are more like to have money (people are probably getting a bit more desperate at that age too).

It looks like the policy is revoked tho.

I imagine it'd be the same as printing of a copy of the Mona Lisa and putting it up on your wall for your own viewing pleasure. Completely legal.

Where as printing it off and then charging other people to see it would be illegal.

It does make for a funny story, but yh, probably wouldn't give it to the GF!

My dad always likes to tell us about the Christmas when my uncle bought my aunt a tin opener (a good one!) for Christmas, she was apparently rather unimpressed but the story has given years worth of good laughs.

I also remember when my dad bought a holiday in New York for my mum and himself for Christmas, but the tickets were in a small envelope right at the bottom of a HUGE box filled with packing peanuts.

What terrible/joke presents can you think of that would be a good laugh on Christmas day?

I think some people do fucked up shit regardless of what they're taught and it requires a solution that's slightly more complex than "just teach the kids right and wrong".

Whilst I strongly encourage good parenting, you could have the most fucked up parents imaginable and still easily be able to understand why rape and murder isn't a benefit to society.

[–] 13esq@lemmy.world 6 points 5 days ago (2 children)

imo the solution is just not to do anything sketchy, and teach younger people what's right and wrong, so that the problem can get solved with a better society in the future

Ah yes, why didn't my parents or their grandparents think to teach their kids that rape and murder is wrong!? It's all so clear now!!!

I'm cool if I can only faintly smell it, but when someone puts on too much it's eye watering and as you say, they'd be better without.

Whatever the source, I don't think it's surprising that women are a lot more selective than men, it makes a huge amount of sense in evolutionary terms.

And given that a small percentage of men are getting chased by the majority of women, it's unsurprising that they're used to getting screwed over, causing all men to get cast with the same aspersion.

I know it's unrelated to the thread, but I'd personally never go to a country that doesn't treat, women, gays, apostates etc as equals, I think these countries are absolutely terrible and I'm not fooled by them having "show cities" where they pretend that they're not that way.

A country that still has a medieval mindset in the third millennium is not getting a penny from me.

Sometimes prophecies are self fullfilling, treat a man like the worst example of the gender he represents, through no fault of his own and you might find he behaves less than appropriately.

I'm not saying that excuses the behaviour, but if women looked at me and immediately thought "potential rapist/murderer" I can't say that wouldn't upset me and possibly cause me to act less than amicably.

I mean what the fuck am I supposed to do? Somehow talk the worst male scum out of their depraved behaviour, or somehow try to convince all women that "I'm one of the good ones"? That's never going to happen no matter how hard I try.

We all need to be realistic and keep things in perspective. It's not OK to treat people as the worst of the people they identify with, it's no better than the "all Muslims are terrorists" mentality.

You make good points. You're getting the wrong end of the stick but I don't think it's worth trying to explaine myself further.

I know I generalised but I think what I said is mostly true and I'm just as entitled as you are to put my point of view forward, sorry that I have a different opinion.

I'd like to make it clear that I'm not saying it's OK to be pushy but making a distinction about showing sexual interest that can sometimes be a grey area and a fine line to tread.

If you want to go on a hundred dates with the same person before you're OK with sexual escalation to make sure someone has pure intentions or whatever, you do you, but it's not typical and I expect that they'll move on after enough time of wondering why they're dating someone that appears frigid or un-interested in sex.

One of my best friends said "if I'm on a third date with a guy and he's not made a move, he's probably got a tiny penis". I know that's a horrible thing to say and to hear, but it's true. Most women expect men to make a move at some point and if they don't, she'll be wondering what's wrong.

There's no need for the hostility, though given the election I understand you're probably just lashing out and it's not personal. I hope you feel better soon.

I understand why he is unpopular with many people and to be frank I have quite the distaste for all billionaires, but he is not stupid which is something that is often claimed.

No-one becomes a multi-billionaire due to a lack of intelligence or common sense.

Musk knows exactly what he is doing, he didn't buy Twitter to make a quick buck, he bought it derail it and he's done that quite thoroughly. $35bn to Musk is pocket change.

I mean I get it, if I was a big Twitter user and a new CEO made it something that I now hated, I'd think the bloke was an idiot, but that is actually just a difference of opinion and has nothing to do with intelligence.

In short, whilst Musk is clearly very unpopular with some people and I can understand why, the man clearly is not an idiot. Some people really don't like it when you tell them that.

Edit: 14 downvotes in 30 minutes lol, I can't say I wasn't expecting this but judging by the replies so far, I think it just proves that it's an unpopular opinion!

I'm looking for inspiration! She wants to go on a holiday at some point during the year as a gift, but I really want to give her something on Christmas day.

Quiet PC build (uk.pcpartpicker.com)

My first PC build in ten years, my current PC hardware is incompatible with the latest windows release. I'm aiming for quietness and reliability over power.

I'm quite excited to get my hands on some parts again. Let me know what you think! :D
