We have been trying to contact you

With the resurgence of pirating, do you think there will be a “response” from the powers that be?

In general, what would that look like?

Specifically, do you think VPN companies based in the US or friendly countries will start to feel legal or corporate pressure to stop letting people use their services to download copyrighted material?

I just feel like these things always ebb and flow.

I’d like to self-host an app to manage and play podcasts from any of my devices via local/vpn.

I found PinePods which is new but looks promising: https://github.com/madeofpendletonwool/PinePods

I was curious if you guys were using anything else?

Thanks

P.S. sorry if this has been asked before, I couldn’t figure out how to effectively search lemmy communities

Maybe you could save the chats to a file and then use Paperless-ngx

Wow you’re giving me flashbacks to 2001

Probably recommend getting extracts wherever you find it

I started with Ubuntu because it’s so widely covered in tutorials/guides and troubleshooting docs. I want to branch out and try other distros, but I have had no reason to stop using Ubuntu. I use 22.04 on my daily driver and Ubuntu server for my home servers.

I’ll add that you can buy a $30 used “thin client” pc via eBay and set up Ubuntu server (or your choice of Linux distro) then set up pi-hole on it. Cheap project, lots of value

I think people underestimate the scale of surveillance/tracking. People lump it in with “oh it’s just advertising”, similar to all the commercials you watch on tv. But it’s a completely different beast. Personally my eureka moment was when I set up a pi-hole and saw the staggering amount of creepy tracking on my devices.

Because “come here” is a command, and when a pattern emerges over the lifetime of a relationship it is disrespectful to you. Are you a dog?

Remember in the early days when a teacher would write a super long url on the chalkboard and then you had to write it down with a pencil on paper, and then later type it all into a computer

I live in a one party area.

I’ve long wanted to set up a solution to seamlessly record video or audio calls and store them

Seeing how everything went down with Apollo and Reddit made me want to revisit the idea. I was impressed Apollo had the foresight to record the calls.

The way reddit lied and tried to manipulate is the exact sort of thing that I want to protect myself against in the future.

Any ideas? Thank you
