I'm depressed right now so that's part of it. But I feel like I just exist, I just go through the motions in life. I do everything right (exercise, social functions, counselling etc) but it's not a particularly enjoyable life.

Absolutely not. We need to have decency in war whenever possible eg not targeting children

You might find looking into coercive control of organisations interesting. A cult, terrorist group etc controls information and in many ways changes how people think. Controlling government's can be the same.
