Shouldn't they have been closed anyway on account of the hurricane?? Lol. People aren't supposed to be traveling

Thanks for pointing that out! High quality content takes time to craft. It's being skilled and/or knowledgable, being able to convey that across on a digital platform (where basically everyone's anonymous and of unknown backgrounds), and being engaging while you're at it. It definitely can be demanding for some.

Ah, whoosh on my part. I didn't want to assume anybody's background or understanding!😅😆

Etymology is for word origins😊 But if you like bugs, you're looking for entomology! There seems to be a cool community over here: !entomology@mander.xyz

From Greek etumos "true, real" + -logia "study of" 🤗

Yay! I started a community over on Squabbles for a bit, and it was primarily another mod and I posting content. Unfortunately they went MIA, so I've been bummed out about that because they were pretty active lol. Tried to find an etymology community on Lemmy, so I joined the Kbin one, after which I realized it was a bit dead and there was no one running it. So here we are. :)

I'd say focus on sharing etymology findings for now. I'm not some linguistics professor or anything – just an amateur who created this community for fun. Maybe we could sustain more question posts once there are enough knowledgable subscribers to answer them. (I'm hoping some experts would discover the community actually, and maybe hop on as mods). :)

Edit: I just updated the community rules so clarify that question posts are allowed, as long as you please attempt to at least Google it yourself first. 😆

Hello all! I just created an Etymology community since I noticed there wasn't a local one for those of us on LemmyWorld. Hope to see it grow. :)
