I'd installed this yesterday and have already bought it - lovely work, thanks. My only request would be perhaps support long-press tool tips to explain what the icons do.

I expected I'd like it, because I also paid for your Yatse many moons ago.

That's really interesting, thank you for going to the effort to share those page.

Very cool, and it reminds me of that album cover:

Cover art for Joy Division's album Unknown Pleasures, which consists of horizontal lines that kink in a way reminiscentl of a mountain range

You're forgetting about things like self-hosting or just using the browser's storage.

I guess it depends on whether you want recommendations about everything on the platform, or just from the subscriptions. I think for basic subscription recommendations you only need to track what the user has watched, although you can use a large number of profiles to get better recommendations even in that case.

Something like this would work:

  1. import subscriptions watched and items from YouTube, Nebula, etc
    • ideally you'd dedupe items at this step and have a priority list (e.g. Nebula before Youtube)
  2. allow manually marking items as watched, new subscriptions, etc
  3. add newly watched items to the watched list
    • perhaps support re-syncing from sources, either manually or automatically

Then you can use something like https://github.com/mattwright324/youtube-metadata to pull down metadata and then you can make useful-enough recommendations to start with. You can add in other people's profiles if you want to expand it to unsubscribed channels, but this will get quite big (and potentially slow) at the scale needed to be useful.

I don't think this is as much work as you think, so someone else must have put more than these few minutes' thought and effort into it already.

If the content is from Youtube, I think it's fine to post that link - there are plugins to rewrite to something else if you use it, but for those who have paid/functioning ad blockers Youtube is most likely to work well.

There's a whole instance of people you should ask: https://rblind.com/

0.0.1-pre.4? I know getting to version 1 is a bit unfashionable lately, but they really need to learn how to commit.

Yeah, I don't think so either - we have English words starting with X and they're most Z sounds: xenon, xylem, Xerox.

I think if you know a little Mandarin you might pronounce it that way, but surely that's a small minority.

It spends half the time complaining, so I don't think it's an ad (never mind that commercial doesn't mean advertorials). It's more like they saw the anniversary coming up and came up with an angle they felt they could be interesting about.
