Don't forget the servers cost. Those things cost a lot. I have a pretty good gaming setup, 2k€+, but my home server costed me more in the end.
I started with the Arcanist too, then Scholar. I really liked the gameplay.
Then I changed main class almost every expansion, starting with the Dark Knight, then Dancer, Sage, and now back to Dancer. None of the new classes caught my fancy this time 😅.
Do you use XIVLauncher?
I played 2.0-7.0 on KB/M, and now I'm learning to play on Steam Deck (so a controller is mandatory). It is surprising easy for DPS and tanks, but I'm still struggling with Healers.
I'm only a moderator, that's not a decision I'd be taking alone.
Problem is that a community as broad as a gaming one is bound to be subscribed my many user on many instances. Switching it to another one will only move the problem elsewhere, not fix it.
Still, if that's a problem, we could research other courses of actions, like dividing LW in multiple sub-instances for broad topics. The idea would be to get all gaming related community on "games.lemmy.world", and getting most games related communities to switch there, so external instances can subscribe to that specific instance without receiving all the other updates from other communities. That would also make it a lot easier to scale the servers to the right size for the right use.
But once again that's not my decision to take.
No FFXIV community?
I'm playing since the 2.0 days, I almost grew up with this game and its characters. Top tier game, be it as an MMO or a single player game, it is worth it.
Having worked on both Java (as a student), then .NET, the later has a lot of features Java didn't have.
Ironically, as Wine (and Proton) uses Mono, MS contribution (among a lot of other projects) may have enabled Valve to make Proton what it is today.
Shameless indeed.
It was at first, then they became a for profit organization, Xamarin, who was bought by Microsoft.
You can use a A+E card on a E slot, that's basically why they were made, to be compatible with both.
I have such setup on my desktop computer (A+E Intel AX210 in a E slot PCIe daughter board).
It is quite simple for me : An XBox controller, with the 8bitdo battery pack+dock.
All the Ultimate goodies (except for backpedals), none of the headache.
The Gullikit KK3 is a very good choice too.
