The unfortunate thing in North Carolina is that the right wing only has the necessary votes because a democrat switched parties after being elected. So now republicans can do whatever they want.

Iirc the special district still exists, Desantis tried to get rid of it initially but backed out of that plan because it would have shifted financial burden to the counties where it’s located. Instead Florida passed a law changing it so Desantis could appoint the board and renamed the district.
I read something about how the uncertainty in banning vague topics is actually more harmful than a list of banned material. It’s left up to the teachers discretion and they end up overly cautious because they want to keep their jobs.
