The MAG7 operate large and growing cloud services, so their datacenter costs would grow even without any AI training.

And charging $5 for a video query does not mean the query uses $5 of energy. The query is priced to recoup training costs that were already incurred.

That article doesn't say what you imply it does. Companies may be using ChatGPT to grow, but that doesn't mean they are training AIs.

And the distinction is critical to energy usage. Training a new AI uses a lot of energy. Querying an existing AI uses far less.

I'm not sure that's true. Every company uses storage, and every growing company needs more. But very few companies are training generative AIs.

Datacenter != AI

If you are using the internet for anything with cloud storage, you are contributing to datacenter growth. And that includes nearly everyone using social media.

Yes, that's my point. The OP is out of date, neither the title nor the first paragraph match the current version of the article.

This is out of date, he took another flight and already landed in Spain.

global investors will start to shun the US

Where would investors go instead? The UK, EU, and Japan already eliminated quarterly disclosure requirements.

I mean, plenty of us were hoping the shooter wasn't antifa, and that's not so different.

No, it doesn't. Countries have no legal obligation to stop something happening outside their borders.

The Geneva convention does not authorize arrests of individuals. That's what the ICC is for, but the US does not recognize the ICC.

If you prefer active voice then "He died" is optimal.

Actually "He died" uses the active voice, whereas "He was murdered" uses the passive voice.

Ending the Gaza war: Three phase proposal

PHASE ONE

  • It would begin with a six-week ceasefire, during which the IDF would withdraw from populated areas of Gaza
  • Hamas would release "a number" of hostages - including women, the elderly and the wounded - in exchange for hundreds of Palestinian prisoners. Some remains of dead Israeli hostages would be returned to their families
  • Palestinian civilians would return to their homes in all areas of Gaza
  • Humanitarian assistance would "surge", with 600 trucks a day entering the strip, and hundreds of thousands of temporary housing units sent by the international community

During that six week period, negotiations mediated by the US and Qatar would continue. If successful, the next part of the plan would begin.
