After exporting my photos for migration to Synology, Google gave me 95 2GB zip files to download. I tried downloading directly into my mapped network drive, but the speed was super slow. My tip for you is if you are familiar with docker, you can spin up a Firefox container and map your desired network drive to the container. If you download from the Docker container, it will use the NAS's wired internet connection rather than your PC's WiFi connection. It is a much faster process, cutting it from days to hours for me. I'm sure most of you would have thought of this right away, but after 25 manual downloads, this was a huge relief for me.

I love my Synology. It is my gateway to self hosting. Get one that can run Docker and you’ll scratch most of the itches.

I would also like to know this. Everyone talks about it but I have no idea how it’s different than anything I’m doing now. Is it like Tailscale?

I got lemmy.cyou when I thought I could figure out how to host, but can’t seem to get my compose file right.

I know everyone is still fiddling around with setup, but I have tried and tried to get my own compose working but have had no luck. If anyone can share their working compose, it would be really helpful. I have an existing Nginx Proxy Manager container serving as my reverse proxy, so I don’t want to install the nginx container in the sample compose either. Thanks!
