Republicans have ruled for half of the current century, but only legitimately won the election after 9/11. I don't think it's fair to describe US elections as functional, even arguably.

This is what fascist states look like at this stage of their life cycle. I think the most generous description of the US is an early fascist state. If we really want to argue about whether a spade is a shovel.

When I look at the quality of prominent Americans who went to ivy league schools, I don't think cheating your way through college will make much difference.

Pete hegseth graduated from princeton without the use of AI and he is one dumb fucking cunt, for example

"That's when I was happy" is the only correct answer.

Allowing the rich to control the world has proved pretty suicidal.

Every day we find out how much better the world could be if we'd already killed the rich.

place idealism above hard work

To translate from rich asshole, this means act ethically instead of do what I say.

It's interesting to note how vital lying is to authoritarianism.

People often worry over the dark appeal of fascism. But if it's really so enticing, why does every dictator have to, say, lie about being anti-gang while empowering them, or pretend to be pro-america while destroying the country on behalf of it's enemies?

I don't see Aeon Flux mentioned yet. The Maxx is very good too. Duckman I remember being hilarious, but I dunno if starring Jason Alexander counts as a deep cut.

A purpose-built expressway is not the same thing as a slippery slope.

An old boss gave $100 of the store's money to a conman claiming to be the star player of the West Indies cricket team, who promised a sizable donation when he was able to get back to his hotel room. She got interviewed by the local paper about how she got swindled. Not a lot of money, but not a good look.

Shortly before the interview, write out the details of a time you overcame a problem or did something particularly competent. What you did, how you overcame, the effect it had, the recognition you got.

Not for use in the interview, just to get yourself in a good headspace for displaying your strengths.

Abortion is just not analogous to voting.

We're talking about laws so 'true freedom' is irrelevant in this context.

But mostly, compulsory voting doesn't eliminate the freedom to not vote. Just go in and write bart simpson like a certain percent always do.
