For me it's not the direction tech is going but rather why it's going that way. Tech used to be about innovation and creating cool stuff. Nowadays it's more about turning a profit. Cloud was not new or innovative, it was just a more profitable way of doing things.
It's competition that is supposed to drive down prices. Doesn't work very well though when you have virtual monopolies and vertically integrated companies to the extent that america has, like Apple and Amazon.
I stopped going when they let Trump campaign from there.
