Not so much a solution... But using a wireguard overlay network such as Netbird does make it simpler to connect smart devices to a VPN as you don't need to install a wireguard client on each device

The OpenTrons OT-1 and OT-2 were entirely open source as far as I know, but I'm not sure about the flex.

I'm not sure of the value in terms of parts/capability. But since it comes as essentially a pre built or mostly built 2.4 and they donate to the voron team I can see why people would like it. That being said I've not tried one, so no clue how good it is.
