Moin,

this is my setup (drawing focused on backup concept).

  1. Question: do you see problems with this backup concept. Can i improve it or do you see ways to minimize HW with same data protection and fast restore ability ?
  2. Question: there is the selve build Intel Celeron Server, what to do with it? What would you do in this setup with this low end server and why?

Server setup

At this time my china 4 port celeron pfsense fw/router is only backed up if i change something and i manually store the config. restore takes install time + restore config file time (<30 minutes).

I am thinking to run pfsense on this device in proxmox ve, so i can daily backup the hole vm.

Thx.

Give it a hardening so that it has a resilient configuration. Allow only internal access from needed devices only. No security updates don’t means that your are affected from the next vulnerability

If your board (RTFM) has no pins/header for nic leds, you can't use it. But if you have other unused led headers, use them to wire this (SAS controller, iSCI idle led on iSCI controller for example). often dedicated nic's have this pins or real server boards with onboard nic. on consumer boards, i have seen this one time eons ago

I have placed my server in the cellar. Cost 0€ incredible effect for noise and cooling

only backup of the data i need to backup (mapped volumes).

Restore: create fresh container and map volumes again.
