Using the Yuzu case for guidance, dumping encryption keys, regardless of the source of those keys, is illegal

This is false, as the case is non existant, because it has been settled out of court. It has to be proven in court that is illegal, as there's no law that says that dumping the keys from my own hardware that i paid with my own money is illegal.

Facebook not only sends the code to text without asking, but they love to just directly start the reset password procedure.

Now, that's super weird. Are they assuming that, because last time I logged in was 6 months ago, I must have forgot my password?

At $12/terabyte/month it seems pretty expensive for media collection (I mean: family photos are irreplaceable but generic video?)

Other options are to use "glacier" tier S3 which is cheap to rent but ultra expensive to recover (but hopefully you won't need that)

Or just put a pi+HDD hidden somewhere at work/parents and copy to that

How to make money with shitcoins 101:

  1. Pay some $100k to some dev to create something the slightly differs from the existing ones

  2. Pay some millions of dollars to some marketing agency to find a way to get this shitcoin popular. A funny name, a funny icon, or some solution in search of a problem. Something like "this shitcoin can lower the transfer fees of other shitcoins and also if you hold the bag you get 69% APR"

  3. When it launches you immediately buy it for pennies, or even directly access some premined quota (like 30% of whole distribution) that the dev left for you

  4. When idiots buy it, raising the price, you slowly dump it

  5. Clueless people did the staking (lock them for a year) of millions of "cat coin", worth $1 each at the time thinking that they are going to get 69% APR. They actually get the 69% APR, but the problem is that each "cat coin" after a year is worth $0.000001 each

It's already the moment of selling high. Buy low is when they're introduced. Shitcoins are generally going down with value. If you buy now you will end losing money 100%

None of them have a real practical application, it's 100% speculation

I have a revolut account and for some reason they give $1 in shitcoins if you answer some questions like "bonk differs from the other shitcoins because it's made for the lolz" or "floki does exactly the same of other shitcoins but slightly different"

The upside is that in this way they use less plastic. Cardboard can't be transparent and people doesn't separate the plastic from the cardboard when recycling.

We all know what razor blades look like so a photo can suffice, no?

He is insane

All that info is publicly available, but a nice CSV ready to be fed to spambots isn't a really good idea...

If I was involved with wordpress for business, i would start to find a plan b, because now they target wp engine, then who's next?

Nice try, openai bot (/s)

LOL genuinely thought it was a case of "engineer hates the user", instead it was a case "management said we need to save 5 cents for the voltage regulator"

Google enforces rules only against small devs. Big companies are allowed to do what the fuck they want.

Example with one of those "ad viewing apps disguised as games", every single screenshot is misleading, showing a different game to what actually will be downloaded. It's clearly a violation of Google Play terms that read:

Screenshots must demonstrate the actual in-app or in-game experience, focusing on the core features and content so users can anticipate what the app or game experience will be like. Use captured footage of the app or game itself.

In the example not a single screenshot demonstrate the actual game experience.

Google sees the big cash influx from ad impressions and IAP from whales and is closing all the eyes

Tencent and Alibaba instead are still allowed to illegally fingerprint and track the user by placing tracking data in /Pictures/.gs_fs0 which for some reason they can access even without storage/photo permission

I saw a bank in my country requiring to have the permission for apps usage, the one that you have to go in settings and toggle it. Refuse and it closes the app

They made millions thanks to crypto bros buying the Solana phone (rebranded osom with custom ROM), claiming the free shit coins, then sending it to e-waste.

Unfortunately those millions weren't invested in new products but to fund the CEO lifestyle.

I love how the endgame was to trying getting acquired by HP for billions but that failed.

Everyone's (also humane ai pin) trying to get acquired by HP, the ultimate bagholder, expert in overvaluing failed startups

No, it's not phishing, it's legit, the header match with google and the link goes to https://accounts.google.com/AccountChooser/signinchooser?continue=https%3A%2F%2Fadmin.google.com%2Fac%2Fac%2Falert%2Fdetails%3FalertId%3D3...

Why not just write the message there instead of letting me login to watch the important notification?????????????????

Can you notice that it's a bit leaning to the right?

One day many years ago I had too many drinks and being stupid and naive and I bought adobe cs5. I still use it on the same computer I installed it a decade ago. Activated and installed only once. Today they revoked the access to it. Clicking the link they say "revoked because purchased from an untrustworthy reseller"

Yeah... untrustworthy reseller, look at the invoice and see who sold&shipped that physical copy...

sold by adobe themselves

Contacted support, they said that they won't do anything about it because it's EOL.

Moral of the story: don't do like me. If buying isn’t owning, piracy isn’t stealing. Never give your money to Adobe.

In the browser, i didn't login in the google account, and I didn't accept the cookies on that site. Using privacybadger that supposedly should block the 3rd party spyware like that

"please don't buy our phones"

TL;DR: for a whole decade YouTube allowed a copyright troll to claim all the rights on a recording of a washing machine end cycle chime

The account of the copyright troll is still standing and it's not permanently banned

IMHO in this case YouTube should permanently ban at the first offense any copyright troll that maliciously claim as their property something that's in the public domain

Also: if it wasn't that it affected a big streamer with lots of followers, YouTube would have ignored the problem

I have friends that send me tiktok links via whatsapp and then they ask questions about it like "what do you think, scam or not". I used to open them with cookies rejected in ddg browser but now it pretends to freeze after 4 seconds of play, then it says that i must open it in the app and replaces the "play" button with a fake button that leads to google play.

I assume that there's no way to watch it anymore without an account and without the app, right?

Note for Americans: here WhatsApp is the de facto communication standard. Literally nobody uses SMS/iMessage/Facebook messenger/signal. And carriers still charge 2 euro for a MMS which completely kills iMessage/RCS (if accidentally send MMS, it's expensive)

I switched phones and instead of copying manually /Android/data/media/com.whatsapp I used the new feature of pairing via qr code.

Besides that's a not very well designed feature (you need to start transfer on the old phone before logging in the new phone) because they really want to store unencrypted backups on Google drive, the transfer completed in a short time.

Maybe too fast, I was expecting at least one hour to transfer the 5000 photos 10gb, instead it completed in 20 seconds.

So I told myself, ok photos not transferred, I'll just do that manually and directly put them in the photo archive on my PC rather than keep them mixed with all the "happy holidays" trash.

I browse the old phone to /Android/data/media/com.whatsapp and... It's empty. Wiped clean after the "successful" transfer process!

Luckily I had set syncthing (the fork on fdroid, the one on play store doesn't have access to whole storage) to have a full overnight backup! On my PC I still had all the photos, almost deleted too as I noticed that I didn't set the "trash can" option

Conclusion: go to download syncthing fork from fdroid and have a safety net from mistakes like this

And of course they want a credit card on file for "age verification" 😉 or they won't let you chat with the bots

And the label doesn't say anything about it, doesn't have the "don't throw in the trash" logo.

Those LEDs are glued in, there's no way to remove batteries before discarding the item

I turned on my old HTC espresso after a decade and I remembered that I loved this app.

It creates an unique profile image for contacts without a profile picture

So now when you open the contact list instead of having a list of capital letters in a circle you have a list of capital letters in a more colorful circle

Unfortunately it's now outdated and discontinued, but it still works on Android 14.

Seems like some asshole took the source code and republished the app as is, without credit, in the Amazon app store to get some financial incentive (around 2014 blackberry paid devs to republish their apps and many assholes decided that it was a good idea to "steal" open source apps)

After this, dev took development private but then got tired of the update treadmill that Google forces on the play store, so the apps were automatically delisted.

Luckily, fdroid doesn't have such artificial limitations on outdated apps that still work as intended.
