Lifelong Cavs fan here. A lot of those early Cavs teams were wild. We couldn't get big name free agents but everyone we tried got worse at their strengths. Damon Jones led the league in 3pt% with the Heat. Couldn't shoot with us. Larry Hughes was decent scorer and led the league in steals with Washington. Couldn't shoot or play defense with us. Similar stories from his second stint too. But then ironically you get cases like J.R Smith blossoming into the ultimate complimentary piece-- clutch and timely buckets and gritty consistent defense.
