Yeah, IOS and stock android are not acceptable if you care about this stuff

On graphene my bluetooth and wifi turn themselves OFF if I haven't been connected for a few minutes

That's the issue with the patriot act, they've been allowed to do warrantless searches for a long time now.

FISA court if they run into any friction

I agree I close them if I see that, but just so you know a combo of bypass paywalls clean, and ublock origin (go into settings and enable all cookie notices, social widgets, and annoyances) will bypass 95% of those without you even knowing

If that fails go to web.archive.org and paste the URL, that works most of the time. There's a web extension called "web archives" that makes this easy if you're ok with other extensions

I've been on debian stable for quite a while, it hasn't been an issue yet.

If it's something that needs to stay updated I use flatpaks which are usually available nowadays.

Librewolf / Ungoogled Chromium

Search: SearXNG, DDG

Yeah my steam input configs are crazy

I have a whole system for desktop navigation which I've grown to really like

I've recently taken to using touchpad touch as a button chord modifier and it is soo nice.

Yeah, that's really the most straightforward solution unfortunately.

In case you're not already familiar look into sunshine/moonlight for quick access to the windows machine

If you need to use abusive windows software while retaining some privacy you really have 2 options:

  1. Have a separate PC with windows and your games installed. Isolate your activities so all your normal work and personal stuff is on linux, and then you switch input on your display, or use sunshine/moonlight to access windows when you want to.

  2. Use linux and do all your gaming etc. in a windows VM. This is what I do but it is not easy to set up, if you're interested in this idea keep it in mind and come back to it later.

If you're using VM hostile software though which it sounds like you are, #2 becomes even more complicated so I say bite the bullet and do #1.

Dualboot is pretty ass and breaks all the time. I strongly suspect that was part of your issue

I am baffled to read you had to troubleshoot your linux installation every day, what kind of distro were you using?

Sorry you didn't have a good time.

If you know what you're doing yes (not guaranteed to work in all games), but you're always at constant threat of being potentially banned.

The info is hard to find but I assure you tons of people play anticheat games in VMs all the time. I personally avoid those games so I don't know the specifics of all the tricks they do to hide the VM.

Being it's a VM I could see some people just restoring from a template if they get banned and not really caring. No way to be hardware banned afaik.

This VM detection and VM anti detection is a reguarly evolving arms race, and some games invest a LOT more effort into staying on top of it than others.

Wireless Screen Casting / Sharing? (links.hackliberty.org)
submitted 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago) by Negligent_Embassy@links.hackliberty.org to c/android@lemmy.world

Hi all,

What do you use to wirelessly project your screen?

I have sunshine / moonlight set up and that works alright but I'm told there are simpler ways and I'm behind the times :p

Is this a thing in FOSS / Linux land? All suggestions welcome and appreciated.

EDIT: I use Graphene on a Pixel 8A

I've recently moved to pixel/graphene and I'm looking for a more open replacement for spotify.

I installed a bunch from F-droid to test (newpipe, pipepipe, libretube, RiMusic, SpMp, SimpmMusic, InnertTune, ViMusic, etc)

I’m testing them all but I’m a bit overwhelmed with choice.

I'd like to find something that lets me control the music from my desktop, either through KDE connect or a standalone app. FOSS / F-droid preferred

I plan to start maintaining my library locally but I still need some kind of streaming solution.

Thanks in advance for your thoughts

EDIT: I'm not interested in a paid subscription service, if I was ok with that I would have stayed on spotify. Thanks for all responses.

Hello all,

I have recently moved to pixel/graphene, and am looking to dump spotify.

On desktop I use Freetube and Nuclear which I really like, but I haven't found a good way to sync with mobile.

On the android side I have newpipe, pipepipe, libretube, RiMusic, SpMp, SimpmMusic, InnertTune, ViMusic.....

I'm a bit overwhelmed with options.

I've heard of cracked spotify apks but I'm not sure what the deal is with those

With that in mind please give recommendations or explain your solution. KDE connect integration is a nice plus some of these apps have but I'd be ok with using a standalone application as long as I can somehow control the music on either device.

I plan to start maintaining my library locally but I still need some kind of streaming solution.

Thanks in advance for your thoughts

Hello,

I'm trying to send something to my gf's friend (~50gb)

I tried creating my own torrent and was able to dl it on another device, but on her machine it stayed at 0% and wouldn't let me connect to seed

Is FTP a good option? I set up a proxmox server last night but I don't really know what I'm doing yet

Any guidance greatly appreciated, thanks.

On Real Debrid + VPNs (links.hackliberty.org)
submitted 5 months ago* (last edited 5 months ago) by Negligent_Embassy@links.hackliberty.org to c/piracy@lemmy.dbzer0.com

Hello,

I set up Stremio + Real Debrid for my girlfriend and we have been really enjoying it.

Since we use different VPNs at the moment, I had the idea to create a VM with stremio and a connection to the same server she's connected to.

The idea being we could use the debrid account simultaneously and have the same IP.

I quickly realized that the last digit of our client IPs were 0-3 digits off from each other, IE:

185.243.218.89 vs 185.243.218.90

Upon seeing this I stopped and checked the debrid account/email to check for a warning and saw nothing.

Question 1: Is this safe/acceptable, or is this considered breach of debrid TOS?

Question 2: Would configuring a VPN on our router solve this issue? Or would it be the same situation?

I'm a bit of a networking idiot as you can see but I'm on a journey to learn.

Thanks in advance
