ClamAV looks for signatures of known viruses, most of which target Windows and not Linux. So it's debatable how much more secure you really are by running ClamAV

I used to be annoyed at Github projects that were Linux only but didn't mention it. Now I'm annoyed at Github projects that are Windows only but don't mention it.

Probably a large part of the hate is because of the all exclusivity deals that they made at the time.

That's not necessarily true. There has been DLC for Train Simulator (now classic) that got delisted and at some point no longer worked due to updates to the game and not to the DLC making it incompatible. Then at some point a new version got added as DLC which you had to buy again to get a working train. (8448 Big Boy and 6446 Challenger come to mind)
