It's failed like Reddit already and is tiny. The sheer amount of botspam, fake accounts, spam instances, etc makes Reddit look curated.
I doubt they give a shit. As much as I wish there was an alternative, Lemmy is inferior in almost every way still. Started off as a noble endeavor but now it's just full not only users that are bots but entire instances that are just spam bots.
Cool. But scientists do science and understand the scientific method. There remains no evidence of extraterrestrial life anywhere, regardless of speculation about earth being special.
They signed agreements about what they can and cannot make jokes about, so that's a stupid point.
