What's better than EXFAT formatting for a drive to be readable on any OS in case of my death? in c/datahoarder@selfhosted.forum

Multiple copies. All formatted ext4. I say this because there will always be an OS capable of reading it that can be freely downloaded.

You’ve not said which OS you were using at the time. What OS did you use to check the device? If you used Windows I’d suggest trying a *nix as it is often better at seeing and potentially accessing the device.
