Oh, now I see. Thank you for clarifying.

Progressives are the ones who champion for change for the common good. The ones who just want status quo are the ones who advocate for silence, not peace or justice. At best, they are moderates, at worst they are enablers.

MLK said it very beautifully and much better than I ever could when discussing this regarding Black rights:

"First, I must confess that over the last few years I have been gravely disappointed with the white moderate. I have almost reached the regrettable conclusion that the Negro's great stumbling block in the stride toward freedom is not the White Citizen's Council-er or the Ku Klux Klanner, but the white moderate who is more devoted to "order" than to justice; who prefers a negative peace which is the absence of tension to a positive peace which is the presence of justice; who constantly says "I agree with you in the goal you seek, but I can't agree with your methods of direct action;" who paternalistically feels he can set the timetable for another man's freedom; who lives by the myth of time and who constantly advises the Negro to wait until a "more convenient season."

I think the federated social media that is coming now is a great thing. It’s fantastic. It’s back to the old architecture, partially. But, I think it has unintentionally imitated some of the design patterns that exist on the current “they” internet. Among them:

You don’t control your experience. That is designed and curated for you by “they.” You can configure it, but you have to turn in a formal request if you want to make changes outside the parameters, and since you’re requesting someone spend significant effort on you who doesn’t know you from a can of paint, the answer is probably no.

Could you clarify what you mean by this? I assume when you say "they" on the Internet you talk about the Internet's commercialization and commodification by companies. In what way is the Fediverse curated for you by "they"? Is it the news and other external links people post?

Admittedly, that specific change may have been negated or reversed thanks to the return to work mandates a lot of employers are now imposing.

Representatives from Charles and Lynn Schusterman Family Philanthropies firmly but politely told the abortion fund it should no longer expect funding from the foundation, stripping the organization of hundreds of thousands of dollars in a region with multiple abortion bans that force people to travel long distances for care.

The Schusterman Family Foundation portrays itself as a supporter of progressive issues while simultaneously donating to “hawkish, pro-Israel causes,” The Intercept reported. This includes more than $1 million in 2019 to the American Israel Education Fund, a charitable organization founded by the American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC). A report published in 2019, written and researched by Stephanie Skora and supported by Jewish Voice for Peace Chicago, the National Lawyers Guild, and Independent Jewish Voices in Ottawa Carleton, also found that the foundation has “an extensive history of giving to right-wing organizations.” The report was written to expose the pinkwashing practices of A Wider Bridge, an organization that purports to build “a strong relationship between the LGBTQ communities in North America and Israel.”

If your "progressive" stances are tied to your political beliefs. Then it's not a progressive stance. Just a politically convenient one.

Yeah I remember reading about her. She was an incredibly brave woman. The most horrifying part was reading about the IDF soldiers who had a pancake party to mock her death.

Culture mainly. Same reason why some artists today draw photorealistic drawings and others draw more cartoony. You don't need to draw or sculpt something to be hyper-realistic to explore the abstract nature of art.

The last sentence is fucked up. If you're running over hundreds of people how in the fuck do you know they are terrorists. These people are intentionally and knowingly committing war crimes then come back home and cry about how this all made them so sad.

Money. It's because the oil companies have deep pockets and people like Danielle Smith prioritize dollars over anything else.
