Awesome to see another biology video! I absolutely love it when they delve into these topics, especially in such creative ways like with a video about tattoos of all things.

Massive waste of space. Should've used a smaller font size.

Lots of wasted space on the tail. Could've fit a ball pit or two back there.

Dude, I have no issue with the information and opinion. You're not actually responding to what I'm saying, which is that none of it has a chance of applying to this particular video because what Kurzgesagt said in this video has absolutely nothing to do with Bill Gates and definitely wouldn't benefit him — if anything, the opinion portion speaks against platforms owned by large corporations, so it might do the opposite.

My dude, you can't just say, "They got funded by this, therefore there is bias in every video and everything they do that's related to society is billionaire propaganda." Potential bias definitely applies to some of Kurzgesagt's videos, and I'd view any short video on a complex topic with skepticism, but it's not helpful to just whine about Bill Gates shilling in discussion about any Kurzgesagt video without even considering what the video's about.

Really interesting video! When I get the chance, I'll definitely be taking a look at the sources on this one — this seems like a topic I'd like to read more into.

Nevertheless, I think the whole "Forums will fix this!" thing presented at the end of the video should be approached with some level of skepticism. I put my current opinion on the matter in this thread here.

Really don't get this whole Bill Gates thing. This video doesn't have anything to do with him and certainly wouldn't benefit him in any way tmk. You can't just say any society-related video that Kurzgesagt does is dystopian Bill Gates propaganda.

I think the best thing we can do for the time being is to just be active here. Advertising a Kbin magazine to people who don't use Kbin/Lemmy isn't going to help it grow if people see that it's a discussionless wasteland. They won't even bother to sign up. If we build an active community with the solid number of people subscribed right now, we'll have a much better chance at growing in the future.

@Damaskox Works fine for me.

Well, looks like I'll just stick to using Invidious.

I'd imagine that at that point, the expansion of the universe would nullify the tiny amounts of gravity between the particles after the supernova. The only way I'd imagine them staying together is them forming black holes, which this paper in Kurzgesagt's sources list seems to say is unlikely

The low-mass progenitors [black dwarves with iron cores] will meanwhile have compact iron cores but thin envelopes which may result in dynamics comparable to stripped-envelope CCSNe today, and with little accretion after core bounce the shock may expand almost unimpeded. Exact luminosities are difficult to determine without simulations, but the low masses may similarly reduce electromagnetic yields. Compared to CCSNe today, we might expect a similar neutrino luminosity as the iron core collapse should be comparable. Gravitational wave emission of the proto-NS may be similar, but without excitation from convection in the infalling matter one might expect less driving of the oscillation. Furthermore, the progenitor is likely highly spherical which will weaken the gravitational wave signal. For all masses considered, it seems unlikely that a black hole should form.

Of course, I don't know near enough to actually understand much of what this paper is saying, so I could be completely misinterpreting this.

In general, I think they're steadily using more and more, especially in the animation. I personally like the fun jokes and references as long as they aren't spammed in the script.
