Paramount+ has been cancelling shows (which sucks and is bad), but they're certainly not dumping the franchise has a whole.

Prodigy moved to Netflix because the studio - also owned by Paramount - was able to shop it around for a new distributor.

Please, everybody knows Garrett's natural hair colour is blue.

It should be a conspiracy of like-minded individuals that exists parasitically within Starfleet, not an official (or an unofficial official agency).

In fairness, Sloan said they were a branch of Starfleet Intelligence with an official designation in his very first appearance on DS9, and nothing that came after that really contradicted him (other than his obvious lies in "Inter Arma Enim Silent Leges").

Whatever liberties have been taken since then, that wasn't one of them.

I feel insufficiently teased!

Yeah, without any evidence whatsoever it feels to me like some kind of plan was changed midstream.

Notaro and Picardo join as series regulars reprising their roles as Jett Reno and The Doctor, and Fehr and Wiseman join as guest stars reprising their roles as Admiral Vance and Sylvia Tilly.

I'm shocked that Notaro will be a series regular, and even more shocked that Wiseman will not.

I was hoping for something more suggestive of the story, but I'm actually very interested in anything that explores growing up in the Mirror Universe.

That trailer seems pretty insistent that this isn't the end...

I’d be quite surprised if this did not later have to be re-litigated.

That's the state of indigenous relations in Canada in a nutshell. Constant relitigation, with very little progress.

Even when the courts direct specific settlements, the government does everything it can to avoid paying them.

I'm not that familiar with watch culture, but I do know it's a whole 'nother world.

Variety has a little more information on Yashere:

Yashere was the co-creator and showrunner of the sitcom “Bob Hearts Abishola,” which ran for five seasons on CBS. She got her start in the U.S. as a finalist on “Last Comic Standing,” and has appeared as a comedian on “The Daily Show with Trevor Noah,” “Def Comedy Jam,” “Live at the Apollo” and “The Tonight Show.” She’s also acted on “The Neighborhood,” “Crashing,” and “The Barbarian and the Troll.”

LoglineWhen Captain Burnham is trapped within a “mindscape” designed to test her worthiness to retrieve the Progenitor’s powerful technology, Book, Rayner, and the crew of the U.S.S. Discovery must hold off the Breen long enough for her to escape.

Whenever I see a conversation along the lines of "what episode should I show my friend/partner/etc. to get them hooked on Star Trek," the suggestions are pretty predictable - your "best" episodes that are regarded to represent the franchise at its peak.

I like to take a different approach, trying to find episodes that I feel are most representative of the series - the "average" Star Trek episode. If you show someone the "best," there's nowhere to go but down, and it can set someone up for disappointment.

In the case of Star Trek, I actually find this pretty difficult, and I don't think I've come up with any that I feel are really good answers, so I'm taking it to the crowd: what are the most representative episodes of Star Trek.

To me, these are the boxes that probably need to be ticked:

  • Enjoyable (obviously).
  • A conventional structure that doesn't deviate from the norm too much - this is a flexible concept, but I think it excludes things like "Darmok," or "Tapestry," or "In the Pale Moonlight," which are not really conventional.
  • Any series is fair game.

What do you think? What are some "normal" Star Trek episodes that would serve as good representation of what the franchise usually is?
