I found The Girl With All the Gifts through that doc and glad I did. I like post-apocalyptic scifi and it had some fresh vibes to it.

Horror Noire: A History of Black Horror.

It's a documentary on films by or about black American culture through horror. If not interested in the doc itself, you can find lists of all the films that it talks about.

horror noire https://boxd.it/5FEyA I don't think this is a full list, but I'm on my phone and I'm not in a search groove right now.

And the doc is based on or inspired by a book of the same name.

I send my mom a USB flash drive with photos periodically because it's easier than getting her to use Google photos and I don't have to manage more social media garbage.

So uncomfortable. Yes.

"Accidentally" send texts to Crush intended for Doppelganger, carefully constructed to demonstrate how good a partner you are.

Go all in. See your crush with someone else, confess your feelings to them loudly and in front of their current partner, ugly cry when it goes badly. Leave telling them you'll wait for them. Text the partner later to say "nothing personal, I'm the right person for Crush and we both know it".

Let me think, is there anything else one could do to make it more desperate and toxic? Without crossing into actual criminal harassment and stalking of course.

Fun story, my neighbor locked himself out of his house last night and knocked on my door to borrow a cell phone to call his wife. I trotted over with a Costco card, slipped it in the door, and had it open with 30 seconds of jiggling.

Sometimes people need to chill and learn to prioritize their security efforts. There are compromises to be made, lines to draw and accept that sometimes where they are is "good enough". No sense self-hosting stuff, losing contact with friends and family because they won't install fb anywhere, while they leave windows and sliding doors open to the house.

All four are dead now, but mixed while they were alive.

Paternal grandfather had severe physical and mental problems from military service. He was basically a presence in the corner, while the family told stories of who he was long before I was born.

Paternal grandmother was a gardening and baking genius. She taught me so much. She was also worn down caring for kids, grandkids, and her husband who was wholly dependent on her for everything.

Maternal grandmother was a tough one. Raised lots of kids through poverty with a shitbag husband for many years. She coached all of us girls never to be fully dependent on a spouse. Good for a person, good for the relationship, that each partner have some independence and autonomy.

Paternal grandfather got pulled into criminal activities that destroyed the family's financial stability. I wonder what my grandmother could have been if not leashed to that man. He wasn't physically abusive, he just drained her soul and spirit over the decades. When I hear trad Christians like JD Vance want to get rid of no-fault divorces, I think of my grandmother stuck with her husband. She couldn't go anywhere, all he provided was his legal identity that she worked through. She held a job, the money went into his bank account because she couldn't have one. She paid the bills. She cared for the kids and the house. She was an involved member of the community. He was dead weight tied around her neck.

Lazy villain characterization. Someone dresses in black or snarls a lot or is albino or has some physical marker that makes them different from others, therefore they are the villain.

I don't use twitch. Watching other people play games or whatever is not the kind of content I'm keen on, and I don't watch that sort of content on YT either.

If you find it entertaining though, you do you. Not sure why others' opinions on Twitch would affect your decision unless you want to discuss political or privacy reasons, like providing personal dara/support to platforms owned by Amazon and Google.

Yep, currants took a hit because they were a vector for a pine tree infection that rocked our logging industry and led to a ban on currant growing like a hundred years ago. Currants aren't banned at the national level anymore.

And even through that, we have had creme de cassis as a liqueur that a decently built out bar would have.

We have both blackberries and grape jam. Though grape is more likely to come as a jelly rather than a jam.

It took me (an American) going to Ireland and Northern Ireland to realize how odd the excessive flag waving is. Still odd, but those two have the US beat.
