They're definitely not perfect but in my one year experience on Linux+2080ti, it's totally usable. The Linux community seems to enjoy those overblown drama, at this point the Nvidia thing is basically a meme, pretty funny to watch.
This kid was raised to believe flexing a gun is cool. The society he grew up in is broken. When I was is age, I wouldn't had been able to do this because I didn't had access to gun, easy fix.

Fedora works pretty well. Any fork with Gnome should work.
Did you give ALVR a try? Some people got it working. I basically don't use my Quest with a pc because Windows. Hopefully things will be perfectly working in a few months, things move fast for Linux gaming right now.
