You can try !rpg@ttrpg.network there is some D&D player there, not sure whether there is a living D&D community, but considering the main rpg community has like one post a week, I doubt a game specific magazine is alive

Doing war is unfortunately a common human activity 🤮

People do post on lemmy from Mastodon/miss key, and you can follow a lemmy community from Mastodon. It's not ergonomic but possible.

If you use mbin rather than lemmy, you can even follow Mastodon users

We're still cooperating a lot with China, despite all she human rights concerns.

Some billionaire like Frenchman Bolloré are using the same strategy as Musk and Murdoch to push their propaganda and far right does well in elections

While we are a it more economically progressive than US, it's not like gay rights or drug legalisation or even abortion are widely accepted.

The big white light is used for landing.

Moreover, while it's not legally required, most airliner would turn it on when changing altitude, in order to improve other planes siftuational awarness

(I was curious when visiting family living on a hill with a view on the airport down the valley)

The whole "tech industry" naming is bulllshit, there is more technology let's say in composite used to build an aircraft wing or in a surgerical robots, than in yet another mobile app showing you ads

The whole tech sector also tend to be over evaluated on the stock market. In no world Apple is worth 3 trillion while coca cola or airbus are worth around 200 billions

Shoes and clothe are the kind of stuff where you loose a lot by buying online.

In person you can see the fabric texture and colour. Not a photo where light, camera and then your screen altered everything.

Check how well it fits. For shoes you can easily get one size less/more depending on brand/cut and even for clothe you are not a standard person so passing them in the shop tells you a lot.

You can even ask a sales person opinion to get a feedback of course they want to sell but can help you more than a chatbot

Assuming it isn't a rethoretical question : Mastodon is a micro-blogging platform (A twitter alternative) which was the first "big" platform to use Fediverse/Activity pub to decentralize (I am not sure what was created for mastodon and what was already there).

And indeed, you can follow lemmy communities from Mastodon (but the UX isn't great) or post to lemmy from Mastodon

A big change between the internet in the 90's/00's and today, is that today we don't really have this internet with "all computer being equal", we have a dozen of facebook/google/reddit/tiktok massive websites, and it's relatively easy to close one of these.

in the 90's a judge could ask an ISP to close the homepage of someone without impacting the whole internet

With copilot included in Professional-grade Office 365 and some politician claiming that their government should use AI to be more efficient. I am curious on whether some of you did use "AI" to get some productive things done. Or if it's still mostly a toy for you.

A common critic we hear about an EU wide army is What language are they gonna speak but let's forget Europe 2024,

Rome had a huge empire over the whole Europe, I may be wrong, but I don't think that commoner spoke proper Latin in remote province. What happens when they join the legion ? Would the units be split by origin region (Dacian with Dacian, Lugdunumese with Lugdunemese) with only officer speaking latin ? Or would you merge legionaries from different province (So you have Tingitanian, a Lustitanian and a Thracian in the same unit) and give them a crash course in military latin (the way the french foreign legion does? ) Even going as far as Rome, Karl the great empire also spread over half of Europe, and modern European nation used to be way more multi-lingual than they are today, and most likely a random southerner/northerner in Britain, France or Germany couldn't talk to each other.

So how did ancient armies managed the language question ?

All the mess around the US elections make me think : What are weird stuff you've seen occurring during election days no matter whether it's incident, crazy voters/questions or even straight-up fraud ?

Also thanks to all of you who volunteer to run/observe an election, you're keeping your country democracy alive.

Great, we could sleep one hour more, but suddenly, it's getting dark at 18.

Great we have one hour more of sun on the morning, but instead of being pitch black when starting to commute to work it's just still dark and by the end of November it'll be pitch black anyway.

I've seen picture of US lemming already voting, How does that even work

I volunteered a few time to run a voting station in France, one of the first stuff I learned is always have two persons near the ballot box. If a dishonest person is alone, it's pretty easy to add a few ballots in the box and sign near the name of persons who are too sick/old to go voting in person.

Logistically speaking, it's in general not too hard to find enough volunteers (especially on a Sunday) to keep an eye on the vote from Let's say 7:30 when the empty box is sealed to 22:30 when counting is done and you've signed the paperwork. But this work if the vote occurs only over one day.

I see US-Americans voting almost 2 weeks before the election, how does it happen practically, do you have enough volunteer to run ballot station for 2 weeks ? Are civil servant paid to do so ? How do you make-sure nobody tampers the box at night ?
