mRNA vaccine research in America? don’t need that, cancel the funding!

i was curious about the ethics of exposing people to toxic fumes (even with consent):

The key to maintaining volunteer safety is that researchers dilute pollutants to levels roughly matching those found in major urban centres.

"[Pollution] will be created by the engine or the furnace and then diluted by filtered air down to a safe level," said Carlsten.

It will take another five seconds to find the same info using the web.

good. every additional hurdle between a suicidal person and the actual act saves lives.

Unless you also think we should censor the entire web and make it illegal to have any information about things that can hurt people, like knives, guns, stress, partners, cars....

this isn’t a slippery slope. we can land on a reasonable middle ground.

People will not be stopped suiciding because a chat bot doesnt tell them the best way, unfortunately.

you don’t know that. maybe some will.

the general trend i get from your comment is you’re thinking in very black and white terms. the world doesn’t operate on all or nothing rules. there is always a balance between safety and practicality.

I dont agree with the argument that chat gpt should "push back". They have an example in the article where the guy asked for tall bridges to jump from, and chat gpt listed them of course.

but that’s an inherently unhealthy relationship, especially for psychologically vulnerable people. if it doesn’t push back they’re not in a relationship, they’re getting themselves thrown back at them.

but:

  1. way less convenient to generate dozens and dozens of unique, complex passwords. which means it’s less likely to be used/updated as much as it should be.

  2. not tied into MFA which is an additional layer of security and convenience

or even if the dude was just not draped all over the lady in a public arena with tens of thousand of other people.

does this imply Elon is claiming to be "African" American?

I think you guys are saying the same thing. People want to see something they haven't seen before, even in the star wars universe.

this is nothing new, yet clearly it isn't stopping execs from (rightfully) casting diverse actors. they aren't cancelling a $200m mediocre show because of a few noisy bigots.

the problem is AI is trained on art by small creators who don’t get compensated for it at all.

To me it’s fine to use for personal hobbies, but as soon as you start trying to make money with it or even just present it publicly you get into murky waters.

sounds like your coworker just wanted an opportunity to bitch about motown. this phenomenon isn’t unique to motown either.

The movie company partnered with Joya Studio to bring multi-sensory screenings exclusively to Alamo Drafthouse theaters nationwide. The immersive moviegoing experience will take place at advance screenings on Oct. 30, ahead of the film’s Nov. 8 release date in the U.S.

...

The aroma will be activated at Alamo theaters via Joya Studio’s atomization technology, which employs cold-air diffusion to disperse scented molecules as fine, dry air without the use of heat, water or alcohol.

sorry for the hasty photo, was in too much of a hurry to scarf it down.
