Sure. But the goal with kids is to work them towards being able to think for themselves. We guide them until they can, and even then, the guidance should look like rules and guidelines, not indoctrination of thoughts and beliefs.

And lets take your scenario and extend it. Lets say that aliens come along, and they see our planet, and they realise that it's doomed because if they don't intervene, scenario X will happen. They can't solve this for us, so they need us to mobilise to save ourselves.

Aliens that come along and set "rules for our own good", and enforce certain protective rules and regulations, like strict space parents, but do so without trying to control what we think are more "good" than aliens that indoctrinate away our free will and artificially create "voluntary" compliance.

In the first scenario, the space parents are saving us. In the second scenario, the space parents are replacing us.

It doesn't matter how you do it, if your goal is to make someone think the way you want them to, rather than trying to get them to think for themselves, it's the same problem

There isn't, because installing chips in everyone that effectively over-rides their identity is mutually exclusive with "goodness"

Many years ago on reddit, you could get given gold. It gave you paid benefits. My comments earned me literally years worth of gold, and my karma was similarly increasing.

Then I came out as trans. Suddenly the gold stopped and my karma stagnated

That kind of bias is built in to the karma system. It doesn't just punish shit takes, it also sidelines visible minorities

Linux photogs, help me out. What does your workflow look like? What apps do you use?

I've found that digikam is really good for managing my keywords and metadata, and organising photos post shoot, but the image editing is limited.

And using separate image editing software leads to problems, because my camera's raw files (.cr3) aren't very well supported.

I can make it work, by using Lightroom online, but it's not exactly an integrated system due to its cloud based design.

I've tried running Lightroom in a VM, but ran in to trouble giving the VM access to my GPU...

So those who have made it work, what does it look like for you?

Navidrome/Subsonic client that supports smart playlists within smart playlists (lemmy.blahaj.zone)
 

We are running Navidrome to serve up our music, and I want to use smart playlists to listen to my music on "random", but in a way that surfaces higher rated songs more often. Doing it this way requires a smart playlist that contains other smart playlists.

Unfortunately, it seems that Navidrome smart playlists only allow me to include non smart playlists in my playlist. I've got a subsonic compatible Android client that does what I need (though it doesn't sync the playlists back to Navidrome), but what I need is a subsonic compatible windows client with the smart list within a smart list functionality, or a way of making Navidrome serve them up directly.

Has anyone found clients that support this, or found a way of making navidrome smart playlists within other smart playlists?

Lemmy growth is crazy!

Blahaj zone (the Calckey instance) has been running for around 6 months now. We've had a slow but constant growth of new members, with a big spike when Calckey drew a lot of attention. And as a result, even though we're not a huge instance, we are one of the larger Calckey derived instances around.

lemmy.blahaj.zone on the other hand has seen crazy growth! In the last week, our lemmy instance has gone from almost no members, to nearly as many users as our Calckey instance. The mind blowing part though, is that the lemmy instance isn't even close to being one of the largest lemmy instances. We don't even appear on the first page of Fediverse Observer! And the sheer number of lemmy instances online now is huge compared to where it was a couple of weeks ago.

And that's before we even talk about kbin and the threadiverse as a whole, of which Lemmy is only a part

I can honestly say that this whole thing has shifted my view of just what the future of the fediverse might be. I assumed it would always be microblogging centric, but now, I question that...

The lemmyverse sounds perfect, but it ignores alternatives like kbin etc. It would be better if we didn't end up with the situation we have with Mastodon where people assume Mastodon is the fediverse.

So, what do we call this little niche in the fediverse?

Communiverse? FediGroups?
