I’d do better with just making such people laughing stocks and pariahs. I feel like criminalizing the behaviour gives it an aura of legitimacy and power it doesn’t deserve.

I’m guessing that the comments were made in ignorance, which isn’t very comforting — that we have people running to represent us in government who are so ignorant of local history.

I grew up learning about pre-colonial politics (which to some degree carry on to this day), and the colonial system seemed so quaint by comparison.

See, Republicans can get away with this because the people in Puerto Rico, despite being American, can’t vote in Federal elections unless they move to the mainland (unlike Hawaiians).

It’s possible for both to be correct. You can’t fix the US government by voting third party for President, because the system isn’t set up to support that. First you have to deal with the electoral college and FTTP voting, then the laws on the books, which means electing third party representatives who are willing to support changing the laws.

And on the other hand, the President can at least call out what Congress is doing that’s enabling genocide in the middle east instead of politely asking for both sides to stop killing each other so everyone can talk, while representing the people sending weapons to one side of the conflict, who are taking advantage of their position in government to methodically wipe out an entire people.

Or a third grade actor like Trump?

There is, after all, all the witness testimony from his side of the call.

Google implemented WebP because they can control it without having to pay anyone else. Apple then bungled the client-side implementation.

Similar to the LA Times?

Er, you know the history of that railway, right?

And that eventually, with voter’s agreement, it was decided that instead of finally finishing the railway, everyone would be OK with replacing it with the inland highway?

What I’m annoyed with is that the Malahat is STILL a choke point and the highway effectively stops at Campbell River.

For those who don’t know, an always running and maintained railway along the entire island was a condition of the colony of Vancouver Island becoming part of British Columbia, and the railway was never completed.

Government would need a LOT of reforms for the rich to stop winning. Even if Sanders became President, he’d be virtually powerless to fix the imbalances in an 8 year period.

But at least he’d get the ball rolling in the right direction.

This was before AI of that quality was accessible.

Did you read the rather long text at the top of this thread? It explains all this rather well.

AKA:

“Why are you hitting that screw with a hammer?”

“I refuse to use a screwdriver; it takes too long and I’m morally opposed to patents that you get with screwdriver heads.”

“You do know that your hammering is going to make a total mess of things, rIght?”

“I don’t care; it’s the principled stance I’m willing to take to build this house.”
