We are in the dumbest possible timeline.

I mean, setting up Mullvad too isn't that hard and compared to a Netflix subscription, it's paid for itself several times over in the time I've had it. But I get that that might not be something your friends are willing to fiddle with.

That said, we're on Lemmy, in the technology community -- I'm reasonably confident that almost everyone here who is going to read your comment has the skills necessary to setup Mullvad and Plex; if not the entire *arr suite, a NAS, and Jellyfin.

Or, even better, stop giving them your money and get Plex or Jellyfin and return to the seven seas.

that's unfortunate, as I don't really have any close friends I'd say I trust or could count on for more than thoughts and prayers. oh well.

sometimes that's just how it is.

the entire reason I switched to Linux -- back in January I asked myself "if I have to fight my operating system to make it work right for me anyways, why pay for the privilege?"

like sure updates break things on Linux too occasionally but at least they don't reinstall spyware I had to spend a day ripping out after the last update.

just coming back here to say you've now entered the "find out" stage of the process.

Hope it's what you wanted!

"Harassment."

Oh, sure, wannabe Nazi, and you'd never do that, right? Harass anyone else?

He can dish it but can't take it. Coward.

yeah I'm gay and I tried telling my family we should leave, at least to a more blue state, and they brushed me off; and indeed all I had to say was

"ok, well, when I'm the victim of a hate crime I want you to know I told you so. The German 'undesirables' who survived Nazi Germany were the ones who saw the writing on the wall and got the fuck out early while they could. The ones who who wanted to stick around and wait to see how bad it got, they were lead to the gas chambers. After they had their property seized and were brutalized for years at the hands of their government + any other German citizen who wanted to 'do their part'."

nothing else I can do but wait, so... hopefully it's quick. I've resisted getting a gun all this time because I struggle with depression, but there may come a point in the near future where a bullet will be a mercy, so I suppose it doesn't really matter.

They'll only be able to afford running the truck every other day. Remember, most of the people doing these sorts of things will be poor, uneducated, and easily duped into fighting other poor people. When their truck costs an arm and a dick to fill up, and their grocery bill goes up by 50%, and all their imported goods go through the roof too; you can't just have a pogrom every day! You gotta space that shit out, that's just economics.

Remember those chuds in a pickup truck who basically hunted down and murdered a black jogger under the suspicion he was up to no good?

Yeah, get ready for that happening every other day.

lowering my expectations

hopefully, pretending to be straight or asexual; and being able to be happy without friends, as these will be needed survival skills
