Theoretically, yes. A short is sorta a negative stock. When you hold a normal stock, the price can never go below zero. But when you hold a negative stock, there’s no maximum value that stock could rise to.

The Israeli genocide of Gazans will go on until the last Palestinian is dead or Israel is forced to stop. Biden could end this tomorrow diplomatically if he wanted to. Israel is extremely dependent on imports and US sanctions would likely be sufficient enough to remove Israel’s ability to continue genocide.

Most people shouldn’t self host. It’s a hobby for people who want to do it, and there are benefits, but spending 3 hours on a weekend fixing stuff is not how most people wish to spend their time. Furthermore, it’s not a good use of most people’s time. We split labor up into specialties, forcing people to do work outside their specialty causes pointless inefficiency. I agree with what other commenters have said in that a better approach would be to have more small businesses hosting federated together, and anyone not inclined to self host should just purchase service through one of those many small providers instead.

As someone who has a great deal of respect for academia, my opinions on the administrations of many average and top universities has declined significantly. In the last month or so.

Correct. The person I quoted says that they believe the ICC is only supposed to “deal with countries without an independent judiciary”. Them ruling neutrally (since warrants are being requested for both Israeli leaders and Hamas) is outraging US leadership to the point where they want to sanction the court, believing it has overstepped its bounds ruling neutrally on a conflict involving a western country.

I hate to be the one to break it to you, but most of the plants that people eat reproduce sexually and have parents too.

Currently it’s Israel who is killing tens of thousands of Palestinians, but you’re more worried about some unlikely hypothetical where the shoe was on the other foot.

“I see it as a step in the wrong direction,” Cardin said, of the ICC’s decision. “There's always been an understanding the ICC is there to deal with countries that don't have an independent judiciary. Israel has an independent judiciary.”

Two comments on this quote from the article:

  1. The ICC only dealing with certain countries and not being neutral is just imperialism with extra paperwork. I guess the court is only supposed to rule in favor of the west, for them to use as a pretext for whatever they already intended on doing.

  2. Israel abolished the independent judiciary. Appointments are directly controlled by the Knesset and the judiciary has limited power to override the Knesset.

In my area, while we have laundermats, it’s also very common for apartments to have coin-op laundry for tenants. With the absurd levels of rent they charge, those landlords are doing just fine without a bit of extra laundry revenue

This is how I see it too. It’s probably not gonna be a huge deal in the long run, unless there is evidence of sabotage. I suppose it’s also possible that they could pretend to have evidence if they’re looking for a casus belli, but based on recent events I don’t think they’re looking to escalate if they don’t feel they have to.
