I hate watching Zach, I hate this offense, I dislike Hackett as an OC.
All of that being said these revisionist history pieces are just hackjob takes. First for Wilson: he is owed 35 mil over this season and next guaranteed. You cannot cut him, and eat that cap hit, and he was even less tradeable than Lance (as in, not tradeable at all). So as a backup plan for Rodgers, he was the best option unless you wanted to invest both his dead salary and a backups salary in the #2 qb spot which you'd hopefully never have to use.
Additionally, the Jets made moves that make zero sense unless you consider the context of them trying to attract Rodgers to come play in NY. They could've bumped Wilson to the #3 spot, except they signed Doyle to attract Rodgers. So unless you plan on carrying 4 qbs (which no one does) you're locked into Rodgers, Doyle (a part of the Rodgers package), and Wilson (uncuttable and untraceable as discussed). Hackett is a similar proposition, he was a bad OC hire on face value, except hiring him got us Rodgers, which may have worked out really nicely if Rodgers' Achilles didn't blow up 30 seconds into the season.
I get the Jets are a dumpster fire, again. And I get these guys get paid to put out hot takes. But hearing these sportswriters formulate these half-baked pieces that either ignorantly or willfully ignore the context of the Rodgers situation and Wilson's contract makes me want to put my head in an oven
