The paradox only happens because tolerance is taken as an absolute. But if it's a contract there is no paradox.

Maybe they should split the design and the manufacturing. Everyone can throw a design to the table and then choose the best. And then and only then talk about which part is build by which partner.

The only possible good way of making that movie is moving it forward in time to the 2000s or something like that to avoid the comparison to the 80s series and still have some nostalgia in it from 20-ish years ago.
